new barrel arrived yesterday and my son went ahead and installed the Full in it knowing me and my tendencies to just full choke just about everything.

I decided this morning I would put my extended Mossberg choke in it and grabbed my speed wrench https://www.choketube.com/accessories/sporting-clays-speed-wrench/
and pull the flush choke out and put in my nice extended one in.

no point in the good choke sitting in the cabinet on my old barrel.

it wouldn't budge the speed wrench was slipping

now he only used the little factory Mossberg wrench and he knows they don't need to be super tight but he is a some times a bit of a Gorilla and doesn't realize that at his size breathing on it is to much torque.

I grabbed my F.A.T wrench aka inch pound torque wrench tossed a socket on it about the size of a 12ga choke tube and wanted to see how tight not too tight was the lowest setting on this click type wrench is 5 inch pounds not to tight is probably about 1 inch pound maybe even less basically just seated.

make sure your choke is clean and lubed make sure the shelf in the barrel is clean visual inspection

I like extended chokes because no tool is needed

if you use the little Mossberg tool , it is a 4 way , use it the tall way for in , and cross ways for out https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005526555?pid=620432

on 12ga a quarter works makes it hard to get too much torque on it , don't give a quarter all you have for torque just in just in all the way

I see people say aw shoot I left my wrench at home , the rim of the shot shell for your gauge makes a wrench the right size ,

be careful with those Remington wrenches very easy to got too tight https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1601157903?pid=471250

breech plugs in inline muzzle loaders are the other thing I see people way over torque
this I could put a socket and the Fat Wrench on , these have a more coarse thread but still about 10-15 inch pounds is plenty

with both I like to go in make sure it is seated then back off a 1/4 or half turn then just bring it back in to where it stops when using a regular wrench

I run Anti Seize on both chokes and breach plugs https://www.farmandfleet.com/produc...BLksjgidigcZDrYDcr93n2XB3AhoCQC8QAvD_BwE
and a dab will do

both need to come out a every cleaning

pill bottles make a cheap easy way to store your unused chokes , toss a few patches in to keep them from rattling around

how do you tell people not to over tighten choke tubes?

there is a reason stuck choke tubes are such a common issue going to gun smiths.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
