I'm thinking persimmon also but on the persimmon trees I see the bark is more regular squares. Persimmons have male and female flowers normally on separate trees so not all trees produce fruit.

I'm torn between a persimmon or walnut but I'll go with walnut. I agree with epd. Bark doesn't appear uniform enough for persimmon

I'm guessing persimmon tree

The bark on the common persimmon tree is very similar to alligator skin. It is thick with short furrows that form square block ridges. The unique bark texture and dark brown to black color create beautiful winter interest in a landscape.
