Western Furnas County and Red Willow Counties are ready to evacuate towns. Grass fire moving north from the state line. Insane. Couple weeks ago a fire chief was killed in a wreck in the smoke by Arapahoe. Crazy times.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Been sustained 30mph winds all day in Eastern Nebraska with gust beyond 40. Just won't stop. Eastern part of the country just sucks more and more!

Bad juju combo, high winds and very dry grassy lands...

Fire is good for the land. Too much suppression now a days. You have never got up in the morning mot knowing if you would have a house or anything by that night because you was in the path of an out of control wildfire. I've been there , they had massive amount of help by the time it got here and no houses were lost but there were a number of houses lost where it started. I feel for the people in Nebraska and hope they get plenty of help with the fire.

That is a pretty bad deal but we tend to be short sighted enough to park valuable things in the path of natural events and somehow think that won't rise up and bite you in the rear. At least in the case of wildfire there is something called controlled burns.

It's easy for the folks who live in a concrete jungle to judge the folks who live in agricultural areas. There were around 30 fire departments from around Nebraska came to help. I believe the fire was contained this morning. It's still dry and there will be more until the rains come.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

There are forces of nature that just are and if you move your stuff there you just deal with it. And I say this as one who has been through two tornados.

This fire was started in NW Norton County Kansas and quickly moved north and west fueled by 50 mph winds. There was also a fire up by Benkelman in Dundy County that evacuated half of Benkelman. I think some of the fires are started by lightning. Could be a long summer if it doesn't start raining soon.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.
