There's another thread depicting some pretty good horn hunting going on this spring. People are finding some pretty impressive collections. In interior Alaska I came across some pretty impressive racks. This is my daughter (many years ago) with the antlers from a good freezer-filler.

Great shot, Jack. When you're that little, antlers like those must seem overwhelming ! She could have used them for a sled !

Thank you for your share of history.

Here's my contribution to moose day , too. Like yours, done many years ago.

Here is a yearling cow I shot about 25 miles from the house. Shot in the forehead with the 25-06. Drove the PU to her and loaded her whole with a cargo strap over a good limb.
Pulled her up with the PU, tied her off, backed under her and let her down into the bed. It was a good meat hunt. A good easy load. I had to take the tale gate off, it kept trying to close when I backed under her.

Gulo, your picture reminded me of one that I hadn't pulled out in a long time. This was taken at Tustemena Lake. Me and two friends took a string of horses in and spent 10 days. We packed the moose down to the lake and called in the navy to ferry it to the truck. My wife and the boys got to ride across the lake on the landing craft for the pickup. Not much of a picture of the moose, but you can see everything that is important (except my wife who is behind the camera).

Here's a not so happy moose related picture. I whacked a big cow just north of Anchor Point. They are tuff on vehicles.

I’m on the flat prairies so the moose don’t grow big headgear. They taste a lot better than the ones I’ve shot up North in the forest and swamps. On the prairies they are feeding on Alfalfa and canola and taste better than any beef I’ve eaten. Don’t find many moose sheds but once in a while you hit a good spot

laugh

Cathryn, I agree with your sentiment ! LOL

Scott, Gator, thank you, though it is people such as Jack that provides such wonderful reference material for a guide to all artists, which we would not have a leg to stand on without them.

Sask, those are pretty shovels too.

I have always guessed that any game would taste great if fed on the crops , just as domestic livestock when finished .

I've always wanted to try a corn or alfalfa fed deer , elk or moose. You'd think they would get huge, just as those legendary Saskatchewan white tails, with their chocolate antlers.

White, it sure was nice of you to take Hals niece hunting. Looks like she got a nice moose. Did you help her pack it out?

I just watched from behind to make sure no bears were trailing her.

A true gentleman. I thought it looked like her pectoral muscles could handle a quarter.
