"Died after being bitten to death", that's a curious way to word a death caused by a venomous snake.

That's interesting, I was not aware that anti venom had to be administered within 30 min after a bite. Sounds like they should have had some much closer! Thanks for the article, Jeremy!

I don't think the 30 minutes thing is accurate at all. People get bit at those round ups every year. I suspect he was allergic to the anti venom. They give venom to horses. Then extract anti venom from their blood. People allergic to horses can't have it. They get treated with stuff like Benadryl which isnt near as effective.

May not have wanted go yet but I suspect he had no regrets. Not much different than one of us tipping over from a heart attack out hunting or trapping. He was doing what he loved to do. I am sure he was aware of the risk.

Because I am allergic to bee stings I just assume I could be allergic to snake venom and try to not take any more risks than I have to. Even if you didnt die, the thought of a limb swelling up to the point of bursting the skin sounds terrible.

This time of year and after any flash floods I just expect to see them in places I had never seen them before.

Poorly written article. Although it is counter-intuitive, it is "anti-venin" rather than anti-venom. Most snakebite venom gets into the lymphatic system and slowly moves toward the true blood vessels. That is why you are supposed to tie a semi-loose tourniquet on that extremity. Being bit in the shoulder eliminates that option, but don't know if it would have made any difference in this case.

I'm allergic to horses... Fairly severely allergic. Guess I should keep that in mind.

I think some brands use goats.

I'm allergic to getting bit by snakes. That's one of the reasons I avoid them at all costs. Another reason is; I don't like snakes.

Familiarity can breed complacency in almost any man. Steve Irwin, Tim Treadwell and a +1, and now this guy. When handling dangerous wildlife, some breeds of baying dogs, or even stock have the capacity to ruin your day at minimum and end your life with ease; maintaining focus is worth its weight in gold. I sometimes work in the most derelict corners of big cities after natural disasters and situational awareness has kept me out of trouble so far.

In my younger years random ppl would remark on my skills handling bulls and horses at the rodeo. My secret was 2 fold- 1) the Ray Hunt method works on almost any type of skittish stock and 2) my X-rays prove that I either had to get better or get a real job and I sure wasn't gonna do that. I had entirely too much talent LOL (Think early Gary Lefew Tapes)
