You have a service business and the event and location is how you set your rate or fee. You get a call from a customer and after getting all the details you ask if they are ready for the rate?. They respond with, “If I needed to know that, I couldn’t afford to call you. Come do what you do, when you’re done tell me I owe you and I’ll pay you.”
Do you stick with your rate or take advantage of this opportunity?

^^^^^^^Agreed. Also be careful. I’ve had situations like this where people are a little too full of themselves and when it comes time to bill they are not as rich as they think. I always make them review and agree to a quote before they can go on my work schedule.
May God bless you and yours

I never liked those customers. I never doubted that they had the money but I usually undercut my own prices because I didn't want to be perceived as taking advantage of the situation.

Stick with your rate.
Give them a "not to exceed" price before so they know what the maximum cost might be so nobody is surprised. I just did this with a sheet metal fab shop that I've used a lot. I know them and trust them and have a pretty good idea on their pricing. I said "just do it". When it was done, the cost was 3x what I expected. I should have gotten a quote first because I wouldn't have done it at that price if I had known. My fault, not theirs.

Most of my work is commercial and requires a quote from a set of plans and specifications. If that information changes or a differing site conditions occurs there is a change order written.
On residential Work I give a “ not to exceed” price unless the owner directs the work then it’s by the hour!

Do you stick with your rate or take advantage of this opportunity? Stick with your normal rate,,but get a signed agreement before doing any work. Some folks with that attitude are big TALKERS but not big PAYERS.

If your reputation is being fair then your going to eventually get all the work. Big difference between fair and the cheapest. People will pay more with a fair businessman! JMO and experience!
