Filled my tag this a.m. early. My local Game Warden had given me a tip yesterday as to where this lonely public land gobbler was hanging out in a remote corner of the county. My streak continues....37 years straight without eating tag soup. Oh, edit to add this......the birds legs were without spurs. Looked like hen legs.

Looks like a nice one, you call him in with that wingbone turkey call. Yes. He was with two Jakes, one hen, and another bird was off behind them all, gobbling too. I didn't see him, but it sounded like an adult tom.

Good work !! That is a very impressive streak. Thanks Swamp. It is nearly an impossible streak if you throw in the fact that I am not only clumsy, but have repeatedly made one goof-up after the other! Case in point this a.m.'s hunt.........I was driving from spot to spot trying to locate a talkative tom, stopping every 1/2 mile or so, quietly getting out of the truck and calling to see if any birds were willing to answer. I'd pulled over, exited the truck and shook a gobble tube and was immediately gobbled back at by a bird within 200'ish yards. I did the Keystone Cops shuffle and was able to get set up only 75 yrds from the road. I settled in before calling again, only to find that my worthless Old Man ears had led me to believe the tom was in 180 degrees the wrong direction! It was yet another Keystone Cops scramble to re-set up for a bird coming from the opposite direction. The Lord must have felt sorry for me because in spite of my goof-up, I had the bird down in less than 10 minutes. If there is a way to goof up a hunt, I have done it, repeatedly!

Nice bird our birds in the rocky locations often lack spurs here.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Nice bird our birds in the rocky locations often lack spurs here. I have mounted some of those Merriam's with their real stubby spurs. They were often "broomed" looking, like sheep horns, although I think the toms didn't do it on purpose. This toms legs were without anything except a very thin scale (for the lack of a better word) that was only a very tiny bit raised above the other leg scales.....and the same color as the rest of the leg. I shot a similar tom some years back, and it didn't even have the thin scale thing where the spur should have been. Turkeys can sure be a puzzlement.
