I liked it -- yes i do alot of math in my head too -- but I can see that as a great alternative way for learning multiplication ------ and it sure as h beats "common core" math.

It is common core. Just another way of doing it.

I didn't necessarily mind common core -- it was just the approach. When you say -- "this is the way you will do it and no other options are acceptable oh and btw correct answers aren't important" therein lies the problem. Math is math -- however you come up with the true answer doesn't really matter ( count grains of rice for all I care) - but there is a right and a wrong answer. Not everyone has the same world view ( and i can accept that) --- but you can't beat the laws of physics (or math).
