I think the reason kids don’t thing parents are capable is that they are envisioning themselves when they reach their parents age. I agree with most of them. Lol

Just got off the phone with my almost 80yo dad.
It seems my brother had a major roof leak he wasn't to bothered to deal with so he let our father climb up on the roof to fix it. And he's been in therapy the last year to recover mobility after a bout of shingles.
That wife of his done got on my bad side and now this. Warrior, My grandma yelled at my grandpa until he was 90 for pruning his orchard on a ladder and for patching his roof leaks, which seemed frequent. They were from a frugal time, and grandpa wouldn't pay a contractor or ask family for help much. The ultimate DIY. I doubt logic is in play with your brother, and your pops is thinking, "how bout that," so your emotion mixed with any logic is staring most likely at a dead end road. Tell your dad, "well done, ya old fart." And make sure he tells you what songs to play at his memorial service ahead of time. Blessings, Mark

One other thing to consider if your dad is like my dad, he'll do as he wants. I can't count the number of times I've shown up at their house to find him on the roof or doing something else i wouldn't want him doing but telling him not to is a bigger fight then i want to have at this point. Yup. Had to take my Dad's extension ladders away at 85, lol. He was a contractor for 50+ years, so hard to get him to stop.

So, am I the first one to get the joke or am I missing something? I took it as serious but I went back and reread it a couple of times and see what you are talking about

I'm all for dad staying active. It just galls me that my brother who knows roofing as dad had both of us on roofs in our teens putting on shingle would be so sorry. Oh I get it. But did it really come as a shock to you or just a disappointment. I'm guessing yet another disappointment in your brother's known selfish character. The question is addressing your feelings going to cause problems and make things harder on dad or would letting it go be more productive and easy for dad than his two boys fighting. Your dad knows your brother is a turd even if not wanting to admit it. And he probably really enjoys feeling usefull and helpful.

I blame it on that wife of his and the church she goes to. She's some sort of COG ordained prophetess. That don't fly the way we were raised. She expects to be waited on hand and foot, her three boys do the only cleaning and laundry that gets done while they eat out more than in. Yet she wants all the world to know just how perfect everything is. Yet most folks who know anything about her knows exactly where she came from. Let's just say her childhood home had axles under it.
She snaps and he fetches. Please don't take this wrong.... sounds like your putting the responsibility for your brothers poor choice on to her. He choice is to live that way and do those things or not do them.

My dad was the same way. The guy I take care of now had a stroke..has no use of his left arm.and leg but still dri es. His family is upset and they don't want him to drive but he noes as he pleases
IF IDIOTS GREW ON TREES THIS PLACE WOULD BE AN ORCHARD !
