I had my largest king salmon "set" ever just to the left side of the bridge (gill net); 2200 pounds in one drift. I don't know where those fish were headed but the genetics must have been really unique. I had a 28 pound average, and one of the fish weighed 52 pounds. This occurred during the mid 80's.

Pretty cool place.

Here's another bridge across the Columbia about 50 miles upstream from the Astoria bridge. The Lewis and Clark Bridge, Longview Washington is on the north side of the river.
This bridge is so skinny and the approach so steep it's actually a little scary crossing it; feels pretty rickety.

I try tell folks back home the Columbia makes the Mississippi look like a creek. Drove under that bridge today. It's impressive !
