Best way is to cut them off as short as you can, then treat the stump with 50/50 Roundup and Diesel. The seeds can remain fecund for up to 10 years, so plan on a long process. The sprouts can be pulled by hand in the spring very easily.

I'll keep that in mind. I have a feeling phragmites is going to be a huge problem. I have to study it more. I think it likes wet areas. It is spreading in my county supposedly. I'd sure hate to have it on my property. I'm also afraid to trap near it for fear of bringing seeds home. I don't think I've ever seen it.

Didn’t read through all the comments, but I hear goats would take care of whatever you need cleaned up.

I was against herbicide until I started mitigating buckthorn from my property. I have hundreds of buckthorn and honey suckle growing. The only thing that works thoroughly is glysophate.

I pretty much agree though I couldn't find the right mix of glyphosate that worked as a cut stump treatment so I use Pathfinder II RTU on buckthorn. I've actually switched back to more mechanical methods such as pulling, sometimes w/ the help of the fancy Uprooter tool my neighbor lets me borrow. 12 months ago almost to the day I was diagnosed w/ thyroid cancer & while it probably had nothing to do w/ my invasve eradication chemicals, I will never know.

Honeysuckle Bush and Multi Flora rose like the same enviornment and frequently grow together.
Cut the Hoeysuckle off short as you can and treat the stump with 50/50 Roundup and water or Diesel fuel. I aIways put cheap food color in it so I can see what stumps have been treated.
Honeysuckle seeds can lay on the ground for up to 10 years and still grow.

You heard wrong
They are selective about what they eat and will eat everything you wanted to keep and never touch what you intended them to eat.

I bought a bunch and that was my experience

That isn't always the case though. It is possible your goats were poorly trained or the wrong variety. I am skeptical of goats though, but they are receiving consideration from some legitimate agencies last I heard.

Sounds resilient, like buckthorn

Cut the base off as close to the ground as possible. Paint the stump with undiluted brush killer chemical like Crossbow. That's what I use on my larger buckthorn. They never come back.

I might have to try that on my Briars

Right now I'm focused on tree planting. Brush removal will have to wait a bit. As wet as it's been though the buckthorn would probably pull out pretty easy right now

I always dump cheap food color in the mix so I can tell where I've treated so I don't miss any.

That trick helps avoid waste too.

The jury still seems to be out on the effectiveness of goats

I'm going to attend a goat demo at an 8/24/23 invasive workshop. It ought to be interesting.

I have the same problem in my woods with buckthorn. I cut the plant down and paint the stump with undiluted Crossbow. Crossbow doesn't contain glyphosate, but so far none of the buckthorn treated has come back. For the newly emerging buckthorn, I spray with diluted Crossbow. That seems to kill them.

Check out this homemade tool at 1 of the demos today at an invasive workshop. It's designed so someone can put it over an undesirable plant & spray it w/ Roundup w/out hurting nearby desirable plants.
