Dont know about other provinces but in Ontario you have to be a resident of 6 months to get a commercial trapping licence. Natives can trap public land anywhere within their treaty area without any licence for their own use.If they want to harvest and sell fur commercially they have to follow the same rules as everyone else.If they want to hunt or trap outside their treaty area they have to get permission from the treaty organization outside their own treaty lands.

Well when i trapped In Ontario my buddy took me right Into the MNR and they said It was Ok for me to set traps with my buddy. But I was not allowed to take any fur home. But I did get to take my first Lynx and my first marten home. But my buddy had to do some type of tagging to get It done.

From what I know there is no reciprocity between provinces. You would need a fur harvesters trappers course from each province. and a residence license from each province,
Beav. he had to put you on his lic. as a helper

No that is not an option. No licence of any kind to trap commercially (on rtl)for non resident Only way would be letter of permission from the district manager, but not sure if that is even an option.

Well I went right to the MNR so all I can tell you they gave me the go ahead to actually run the line and set traps.

Nothing stopping a licensed trapper from taking someone out on his line. The way I read that is he was with you the entire time.

As far as I know, Boco is correct here - there is no option for a non-resident of Ontario to obtain a trapping license, regardless if it is a private land license, registered line or helper license. I also believe that everything Beav has related regarding his experience is true. Since it is illegal for a non- licensed spectator to participate in any activities while tagging along including carrying fur, setting traps, etc my guess is that he was granted special permission by the district manager... I am sure that has happened before. I will say that I was advised very specifically by MNR here that if I had someone riding along that they were not to participate or assist in any way, so Beav was very fortunate to get the opportunity that he did.
Just happy to be here.

Trip of a lifetime.
I remember some conversation on Tman a long time ago and I think It was Jim Comstock and another trapper that trapped some beaver on Canadian soil. Something like 500 sticks In my mind..
I did a lot of goose hunting In Manitoba around Dog lake. And 4 years hunting ducks In the Minadosa (sp) area. Never met any better people then those ranchers In that area. And the duck hunting was over the top.
