Do any of you guys know anything about this? I am not a knife guy at all and it was in with some "treasures" that I found. It appears the hatchet may have never been used. It is pretty cute. Any ifo would be appreciated.

Neat set, I don't know anything about it though.

Does the handle interchange between the knife and hatchet?

Sets like that were popular out West, my dad and grandpa both had knife/hatchet combos.

I don't know anything about it , but sort of a clever pelvis breaker I would guess , not sure how it would hold up to real wood chopping

that isn't much of a tang to hold the pressures of hard use.

That's what they were used for, splitting pelvis's.

I toured their facility.
They list collectors club on the web site.

They also fix and sharpen / regrind for free.
I was impressed.

Yes the handle interchanges between the knife and hatchet. It is quite an interesting design.

That is one of the most desirable Case XX knives. Very valuable depending on condition. That one is moderate. $$

I have one of the first models that is brand new in the box with the Sambar stag handles. $$$$$

Thank you. I guess I better research it a little more before I decide what I am going to do with it.

Even on elk? Works good on deer but a big bull elk not so much

never done an elk , works on small beef cows 6-800 pounds

before I started just cutting around the anus I used a folding saw which was also handy for taking down branches as needed when setting up tree stands , then one day I didn't have my saw with and tried cutting around the anus it is harder on mature whitetail bucks have to cut some additional connecting tissue and not just pull through

Very cool find.
No need to split the pelvis on an elk either, yes you can pull it through or just do the gutless method of quartering.
That hatchet would do great splitting ribs from the sternum.
