Sorry, see you are Michigan and I know footholds are legal there. So how did they outlaw jumps?

The PIT pans may help solve those empty fired traps. Do you guys think making 14’s out of #4 jumps puts them right up there with the 14’s? I know Ed Medvetz really likes the #3 jumps with the pans. I know there’s much better traps out there now. I really like using the 3N’s on land here and the old big jumps are nostalgiac.

Duh! I know the 14 has teeth, I just had a brianfart and forgot that. Personally I like a closed jawed trap with teeth for beaver, but realize teeth aren't legal in most states. If you were just looking for a user trap a minute with a grinder would take the teeth off a 14.

The teeth are what makes the 14 a great beaver trap. Remove the teeth and you have a plain #4 jump which Isn't a great beaver trap.

And If you remove the teeth your removing the antic value.

This is why all my old dbls beaver traps have teeth welded or brazed on them. So did the jumps I had, still got a couple jumps hanging out in the shed, but they were plain ol #4s with teeth put on later. The only #14 I own is a Newhouse hanging on my wall. Dad owned two of them and a #41, they caught a lot of beaver but after he got the #41 stolen the Newhouses got relegated to wallhangers.

I got some 114s but they have never been In the water or ground.
Back when I first started beaver trapping I had some #4 Herters and I just welded In some fence staples for teeth. Those were some scary traps but they caught and held beaver.

As strong as some of the No.4 Herters were that I owned I'm not sure teeth were needed!
