NSSF just released the latest on MSRs in this country: https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/...n-modern-sporting-rifles-in-circulation/I assume this is based on "complete" rifles sold, imported, exported. Maybe they used sales of rifles and lower receivers? The lower has the serial number so lowers bought could be considered complete rifles. if lowers are not included then there are way more than reported. Anyway...........with there now being 2.8 million rifles in the country and relatively few illegal uses I find it hard to say they are a threat to anyones safety. I could see how a govt. body could find that number a threat.

Did anyone notice the significant, statistical jump in sales during presidential election years and to a lesser extent the midterms?

I own a couple modern sporting rifles, but most of my hunting is done with more powerful rifles based on what was modern in 1898.

think about it this way over 200 million background checks since 2015 ramping up to the 2016 election
if 1 in 100 guns sold fits the MSR definition that would be 2 million just since 2015
if it was 1 in 50 you would be looking at 4 million
and that is just since 2015
I think 24 million might be a lot closer

I think the number is higher than that. (24 million) Especially if you include AR 10, SKS and AK47 type rifles.

Modern sporting rifle is a fancy term for an AR-15 style firearm. I did not know that. I looked it up and you are right. According to the NSSF; "The term “modern sporting rifle” was coined to describe today’s very popular semiautomatic rifle designs, including the AR-15 and its offspring." I pictured a MSR as a wood-stocked, scoped, bolt/pump/lever action. Probably because I've never hunted with a semi-auto.
Eh...wot?

there were 7,000,000 ar15's in the us when obama was elected to his first term, 14,000,000 when he was re-elected, they estimate around 26-30 million today. I just read an article in USA Today that stated 12 ARs were used in mass shootings in the past decade. Decade. If the number were higher they would have surely pointed it out. That's approximately 1 AR out of two million and they want to deprive the law abiding based on those two figures. No way.

I am glad a few people are realizing that all gun control is a waste of L.E. resources. From background checks to automatic firearms. Sure seems like to this old truck driver that the more gun law we get the more violent crime we get. Gun laws, prostitution laws, drug laws. Time for repeal. Lets put organized crime out of business and quit making people who want to be armed into criminals. Pretty hard to shoot up a school if some of your potential victims are going to fight back.

everyone assumes that the AR15's are just 5.56 chambering, I have them chambered in a few big game chamberings, 25wssm, 458 socom, and 6.5 grendel. I also have an AR10 in 6.5 creedmoor. am in search of a company that makes uppers in 50 Krater, and there is one in a pretty hot 45 cal. Any cartridge that will fit in the magwell of an AR10 or 15 can be had, ya just to find out who is building them. even been scaled up to 300 win mag lenght https://falkordefense.com/petra/probably not many of them at 5-6K$ but it is possible I, 9mm 223wyld/5.56/300blackout and 22lr AR options you can get them in a LOT of calibers I hear the rimfire versions are popular in cali as they hadn't prohibited magazines for rimfire rifles so 22lr and 17hmr are getting popular. the 22lr is a blast , you can run the CMMG in most of your 223/5.56 guns accuracy is minute of beer can end at 50 yards but for transition trills and just plain fun they are a hoot.
