Look for an old ruger mark 2. I used to hit 9mm brass at 25 yards 2 out of 3 with mine. What your using is not capable of great accuracy. You shoot better than it can. What you have is close to on par with what I could get out of the few I shot.

Every shop withing 30mile soft my house knows to hold it for me if they have one come in lol. All eveyone has been getting in are rough riders and the like though . And honestly I think those could be good but can't find one with adjustable rear sights

I don’t do much pistol shooting. I can hit a skunk in the vitals or a coyote in the forehead from 15 feet with my heritage rough rider, that’s good enough for me. My mom and dad bought me a new ruger wrangler for Christmas, and it’s still in the box unfired. I need to get a few hundred rounds through it, but it always seems like we got something more important than going shooting happening

I just picked up another RR called Tactical cowboy, drilled and tapped for scope, red dot or reflex. Trying to decide on that now.

what people expect form a pistol at distance is very different the MKII MKIII is very capable of only black on a 50 foot bullseye target or approximately the end of a beer can at 50 feet at that point it becomes a lot more about the ability to get a good sight picture they also with 5.5 inch barrel have a longer sight radius than your p22 you wouldn't have to wait but it will cost a bit more https://www.budsgunshop.com/product.../ruger+mark+iv+22+45+.22lr+5.5+blue+10+1someone should be able to order you a Ruger at one of the shops my MKIII has a set of MKIII hammer bushings which remove the magazine disconnect that drags on the trigger and makes it fire without a magazine in the gun.I also have a red dot which really helps range. I have a Vortex Venom on it pistol shooting is very much a function of sight radius and trigger harder the trigger or shorter the sight radius the harder to get consistent good hits the heritage guns seem to be hit and miss with quality someone has a great one and someone has a Monday still hung over morning special. I have seen some of both great shooters and sights on crooked the down side of the MKII/MKIII is they are not great all weather guns , they take more to break down and clean than say your sig the MKIV helps this , it is sort of a range toy vs a combat pistol. when you get caught in a pouring rain the MKI/II/III take some disassembly to get in and get dry and that takes time and small pieces so not field expedient more at home with good light and a table.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

. I bought my mark at 18 years old and it's seen hard use for 24 years. Dad and a cousin bought Mark 3s and after yards with my m2 I was not impressed with the 3's haven't shot the 4s yet. I had been keeping an eye out for nice mark 2s for years and not seen much. Then recently I saw a government target mk2 in mint along with a single 10. I bought them both a few months back for the boys paid to much but... They have shot them but don't know they are there yet. Shhh....
Last week at the same shop they had another blued one lightly used for $450 I almost bought it. I may buy it if it's still there next time in in.

Since buying it new, my Mark II 5.5” bull barrel stainless has never had problems from weather or anything other than dirty ammunition. My goal has been center of center and have dropped most raccoons stone dead with head shots from high in mature oak trees. I do keep a little orange model paint on the sight blade tip.
A couple fairly new Mark IV models seem to be quite good as well, but unfortunately I won’t have the ammunition, opportunities, or years to properly wear them in. The rest of the Ruger .22s in my life have also been very good performers.
Another pistol that has been extremely accurate is my Browning Challenger II. With it I have shot flushing rooster pheasants during season while walking checking traps.

I am perfectly content to hit a basketball sized target at 7 yards. - strong hand
- weak hand
- both hands
basketball sized target at 7 yards.

Agree with the Ruger mark II for accuracy. For .22 I really like my Walther government colt Just picked one up ... really liking the feel of the gun in my hand. For accuracy, I'm happy within 3" @ 25 yards.

I just dug mine out. Its a III not a II. That picture is one I took for insurance. It is accurate. Disassembly is quick and easy. Reassembly not so much. Sometimes it just all goes real smooth and sometimes you have to fiddle with it a minute.
For trapping I like my single six. Very safe, very tough little firearm. I dont like having a c o c k e d firing pin behind a chambered round when I am likely to be crawling into a plumb thicket or who knows what. The revolver will not shoot unless I first pull the hammer back. A semi I pull the mag and pop the cartridge out after every shot when trapping. No need with a revolver and that single six hits what you aim at too.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
