snare the hole with a very short snare. They will run back down the hole once caught and if they get very far, you might not be able to pull them out.

I'm no expert I have found that if using cage traps . I try to make sure the bottom of the cage is covered with sand. ( from the hole if possible) It seems like they may be less hesitant to enter the cage trap if not walking on the wire on the bottom. I also have better luck if fencing at the entrance is used to guide them from the hole. Baiting seems hard to do. Over ripe muskmelons , bananas , ect. are talked about a lot. Hardest one to catch was finally caught using little white powdered doughnuts. Probably the vanilla scent , I thought. But I had him the next day.
Burying two or three short chained footholds at the entrance, is effective for me if possible. Short chains to keep them near the top end of the hole. Conibears I'm very selective with , non target is my concerns where I'm located.

Place some apple or watermelon flavored bubble gum where it will find it. Give it the whole pack. End of problem.
