It's become ridiculous.
My daily driver Silverado is 15 years old and 185K miles. Still runs great. But the body is slowly starting to go. It's an LT.......but besides power windows, A/C and a power driver seat, it's not full of crazy options. To replace it with new would run $47k - $50k !!!!!!!!!!! To replace it with a truck 5 years old and with 75k miles starts at $30k !!!!!!
Ridiculous.

Ridiculous. That vortec engine will outlast these newer ones. Afm is horrible and all these lifter problems on the gm's. Quality has really dropped across the board on all brands over the last decade.

All that extra crap they hang on a truck is for the women who can't drive a stick because it's too much trouble to push that extra pedal.

I ordered my jeep pickup with a manual transmission, roll up windows and manual door locks.

FWIW most of jeep parts are still made in USA. Not just assembled here

I'm running on borrowed time on my daily driver. One thing for sure when it comes time to buy I ain't buying new. I can easily afford to but I hate all the junk on new vehicles.
I'd buy a new truck 3/4 ton, manual trans, no power anything, no A/C, no carpets, a bench seat, 8ft box, 2wd and standard cab. Should run about 25K I would think at most. Nobody makes a simple plain truck anymore. Base line trucks come with too much junk on them.
So instead I'm thinking of buying a used older truck something like 67-72. I can find a relatively rust free one like I mentioned above cause they were common place back then. Prices for a decent one are 10-15K. I can add better brakes and EFI along with fixing up some minor stuff for about 10K. All in I'd be less than 25K for a nice simple vehicle.
I'd bet it get as good as gas mileage as a new truck, should be able to get approx 20 mpg. Had a buddy back in the day with a '72 chevy 350 quadrajet, 4 speed that did 20mpg when driven easy.
It'll last me the rest of my lifetime and I won't need to go near a dealer. I feel like a need to get home and take a shower after visiting any dealership.
I like this idea. Any of the 67-72 era trucks are cool. You'll have something nobody else has got.

Some things to consider.
When a car manafactuer makes a 'stripped' vehicle , their profit is low. The gravy is in the options. If a manafactuer makes a work truck with the small stock engine , a manual transmission , a rubber floor and no other options , they might see a profit of $1000-1500. Buy one with all the bells and whistles , it could yield $10000-$15000 profit.
Add the chip shortage , it is smarter to put the chips in the products making money.
Factor in younger people who demand a minimum of certain options like automatic transmissions , air conditioning , power windows/locks/remote key fob and a sound system with Apple/Android play. This group is also more willing to buy even more options than that.
Remember when US car makers were reluctant to enter the small econobox car phase in the late '70s thru the '80s? They didn't want to make a car with a profit of $1000. They wanted to sell loaded up Cadillacs and make $10000.
I am of the camp of stripped out vehicles. Less things to break and cheaper to fix if they do.

I have had quite a few older trucks for personal and work use, all the way back to 1931. So if you want basic, go way back.
My favorite for most things was the 1979 Ford F-250 highboy. It had 4wd, an AM radio, heater, and other basics. The 351M engine was plenty powerful.
The 1977 F-150 was a great truck, but lacked 4wd.
A 1988 F-150 was a great basic 4wd truck, but underpowered with a 302.
A 1989 F-250 was a great truck with plenty of power in the engine, but lacked 4wd.
My 2019 F-350 Lariat Ultimate is loaded with many features and options. It is my work truck and personal vehicle. The capability and comfort are outstanding. The camera for aligning trailers is wonderful - I would not want to be without it. And yes, I love the air conditioning.

Friend of my brother. Old truck on late model frame, so got upgraded everything 6.7 Cummins, big disc brakes, modern suspension, etc Wasn't a fan of these style Dodge trucks even back when they were new. And they ALL seemed to be this color

I've got to disagree with you Dave - those ol' Dodges are awesome! Double ugly. My first truck was a '68 Chevy, back when ithey wasn't anything special.Classic looking trucks. Same with late '60 to mid '70s Fords. Only old Dodge that I liked looks of was Power Wagons. The old ones, lol
