Lost Ol' Sue (Boy named Sue) this morning. 14year old Chesapeake. He's chasing all the pheasants and eating all the beaver meat he wants now. He loved beaver trapping. Would always watch me intently while I would check. When he would see one come up through the ice or on a drowning rod he would always wag his tail. ........... And usually lick his lips. Also very patient with the kids while they all grew up together. Would have his nails painted red whit and blue for the 4th, always get a stuffed toy to unwrap for Christmas. etc He loved riding in a boat. Trapping or fishing, he couldn't get enough of boating, no idea where he got that from.LOL He was too old to go in the boat this last fall but would be waiting on the bank of the sand bar when I'd get home from fishing or trapping. He'd run up and look in the boat to check out the days catch catch. RIP Buddy.

Those Chessies are one tough dog. I remember hunting ducks with a friend who had one. It was a cold morning. We had to break ice along the shoreline. We shot some ducks. His Chesapeake retrieved every one. Later, I looked at the dog. He had ice hanging off his fur, but that didn't stop him from going back into the water for another duck!
Some might say, "It's just a dog." But, they would be wrong. It's more than that; it's family.
So sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to see you took pictures. Makes the memories priceless.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

Sorry for the loss of your buddy. It sounds like he lived a good life with you and your family.

That dog didn’t get short changed…he lived his best life …and you were there for the ride .
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
