Punch it directly in the face. Right in the nose But don't hit it from behind or from the side - they can get head shy if they're hit from something they can't see The more instantaneous and immediate, the better. It will be noted as a direct response and will be most effective. As said earlier, any delay will minimize the effect.

Don't settle for "he's better than he was" or "well at least its just his lips now" or "he only does it the first morning it frosts now". Another one is "he does it to my husband but not me" etc.. Nope! every time answerer with a good pop on the nose and tell whoever is going near it, if they are not prepared to discipline this immediately, just stay away. Biting can end up being as dangerous as kicking IMO.

As others said, bust him in the nose, immediately. A horse weighs 4 to 5 times as much as an adult human. A full grown, fit man is but a nuisance to a grown horse in hand to hand fight. You cannot physically injure this horse with your hands. Unless your name is Mongo. Interesting family story. My great Grandfather rarely spoke and usually just whistled. He had a milk cow that kept kicking the bucket over and he finally had enough. He walked around to the front and gave her a right jag right between the eyes and put her right down in the milking stall. I would have liked to have seen that. The only photo I have seen of him was him holding up one side of the F12 Farmall tractor while great Grandma put the wheel back on it. Strong Swede's up here!
I have nothing clever to put here.

Then just go ahead and tie her tail up cause that’s comin next. When all else fails…go Mongo!
