I like to place my stands at least a week prior to the day I put my baits out and I don't go near the stand again until the day I hunt it. You guys know how inquisitive bear are. They sniff out every move you make near a bait site including your entry and exit trail. I always have an alternate trail to use for the day of the hunt. Attention to little things like that make a difference.

That's illegal in Minnesota. I can see the advantage of it though. I don't decide which stands I am going to hunt until a few days before the hunt starts. Also I use stands with the comfortable mesh seats and I have no doubt the bears would chew them up if they were out there very long. I have had them chew the seats off stands before.

It's perfectly legal here so long as there is no bait involved. I've had them chew my seats as well. I'm fortunate in that I have a cabin not far from town and I set baits just over a hundred yards from the cabin door. Two newbies have taken three bear off that bait in the past two years. No monsters but I get big bear on that bait from time to time.
