Anvils. Very hard to find , even harder to find at a decent price in good shape. If you have a good one ( like I do ) buying another one is easy to flip for a few bucks. Very large ones (500lbs+) are like hens teeth.

I built a collection of tools at garage sales
Bought several broken craftsman ratchets, screwdrivers, etc for change and traded them in for new ones
Right now I am looking for a handful of sockets to complete what I have Keep your broken craftsman ratchets they will be better than the new ones. You won't habmv the agervation of one out off the new set breaking the first time you change a starter or the guts falling out of the replacement before you put it on its first bolt. I pit the scocket on it and ratcheted by hand to check the direction and bam the guts fell out. What I look for. Nice American made vices or any other quality tool.

well I have never seen a decent price on a tool at a paw shop
tools I am on the look out for at yard sales
axes and handles , shovels , rakes , hoes anything that seems to have good steel and wood
hammers picked up a couple claw hammers a buck a piece at a garage sale this spring
sockets and wrenches of decent make
5 bucks a set for some craftsman sae and metric this spring
decent pliers
I picked up a older but looked to be very little use craftsman circular saw this spring also for 5 bucks made sure it worked first even
wheel barrows , I can buy them broke , fix them up or use them for parts , great for moving fire wood and garden stuff I line them up next to the splitter and fill them then I don't ahev to bend over to grab the wood to stack.
I have kids I can give these items to when I find them at really good prices
I picked up a corded eclectic craftsman drill last year at a thrift shop forward revers multi speed keyless chuck , 5 bucks , looked like new.
brass punches , people will clean out grandpas tool box see a dirty old punch sort of hammered over on one end and toss it on a table of 25 or 50 cent stuff
you can clean up the punch and keep using it new brass punches of any size are 15 dollars
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

What’s some tool I have an eye out for? 10mm socket and half inch wrench. I cannot keep these things around. It’s like my tool box is magnetized but those two things are opposite magnets.

I finally bit the bullet a few years ago. I went to Sears and bought about (10) ten millimeter sockets , some shallow , some deep , some 3/8 , some 1/2 drive. No longer hunting for that socket. Cost a bit to buy them that way , but life is easier now.

I have a lot of tools and invested a lot in tool organization, a place for everything and everything in its place. When my son was born, he got tools for every Birthday and Christmas- the year he moved out I bought him a matching toolbox to mine, both boxes are labeled and laid out identical- nice when we’re wrenching on stuff at each other’s houses. I did the same for my son-in-law, I keep a rummage list of what they need and enjoy filling in their tool collections- I guess we’re all OCD. It's not OCD, it's put the friggin thing back where you found it. Nice setup.

I always look for snap on, proto, Mac tools at estate sales. I don’t need em but if I can haggle and get em real cheap I’ll buy em. Usually from the children or wife of a mechanic that doesn’t know the difference between a snap on ratchet and a craftsman ratchet.
