Today catch.




Only 5 today. He said he isn't get near the action he'd hoped for today he thinks it's because of warm Temps and lots of food..chipmunks and mice..and he doesn't think they're having to hunt hard.

That's 31 marten in 4 checks.

As of today he has 104 marten sets out..over 90 miles.

I know.. I know ..that's alot of driving but that's what ya gotta do to catch numbers.
You can't be afraid to put mes on your vehicle.

Well see what tomorrow brings his goal.is still reachable.

Good weather is forecasted for next week so we'll see what happens.

Very nice! Btw Blak Spot's post is on the other thread without the pictures. I love seeing Jerry going out and doing what most people wouldn't fathom doing and I look up to him greatly!

There's a brand new shiny #5 Bridger right at the top of the crossover..where it should be..that don't belong to jerry.lol

He hid his marten set in the bushes and even though he could have set the pond and cut the guy off he didn't.

He said he hopes the guy catches it..maybe it's the first beaver he's ever trapped.

Jerry wished.him.luck and went on to the next location.

As it should be, other trappers should leave each other's traps alone and go on their merry way. Good luck to Jerry and his mystery trapper.

That area looks very familiar to me. I spent many summer vacations in the Snowy Range area. Tom Krause used to trap there. Maybe still does.

Yup, it takes a lot of sets over a lot of miles to catch a lot of fur. 25 sets over 25-30 miles will not catch one enough fur to pay but 100 sets over 100 miles goes a long ways towards making a big catch.

Over the years we’ve heard of phenomenal catches like over 2500 coon, over 100’s of beaver, over 1000 muskrats, over 1000 red fox and almost 1000 coyotes. None of these catches were made without tremendous mental and physical attitude and 100’s of traps over 100’s of miles, and then some!

Toms slowed down, has had some health issues. His mind is still good and always a pleasure to talk to.

I was thinking, I never knew West Virginia Had such a thriving population of Marten! Checked through the posts... I never knew Wyoming had such a thriving population of Marten!

Since your educating and entertaining us, what is Jerry paying for gas? When our marten season opens on Nov. 1 in interior Alaska, we will be paying something over 4 bucks a gallon. Most venders, like Safeway and Kroger, are over 5!

Martentrapper..he's paying 3.65 gallon but he had a nephew in colorado that works for a fuel company that sells bulk fuel. He had a100 gallon fuel tank set at the ranch.

Its 3.99 at the service stations.

This is the first year he's had a tank and got fuel cheaper.
