1 of my hunting parcels I own is very desolate. Wooded & a LONG way from the road. This year, the parcel behind me sold & instead of an absentee landowner I have a vehicle driving thru my property daily. It used to be that the deer hardly saw people. He has an easement so I'm stuck w/ it. Nice guy, but still--he drives thru daily. He knows I'm not a fan of it necessarily, but says all the wild game is used to him by now & is unphased. Does that seem likely or do you think he's just trying to make me feel relaxed? Also, I'm planning on bobcat trapping there this winter

Depends...deer in general, doesn't bother them most likely, but big buck will definitely be wary. Think of a big buck as being an alpha coyote! They get big for a reason.

Luckily he is not a hunter. But he is not an anti hunter. In some respects he helps keep an eye on the 'neighborhood' from people that ought not to be around there. He has a dog but it seems respectful, as does he. It's a 55 yr old single guy, not a young punk. And it's 1 car, not a noisy atv. The guy kinda reminds me of a river rat/loner, but I don't think he traps. He bought it to enjoy the peacefulness like I do.

Your neighbor has no idea about the subject. He is saying that to appease you.
Mature bucks will not tolerate the vechile sound. I saw a buck react to a truck on a road that was not visible because of a patch of woods. He dropped down and scooted into a draw and disappeared.

It wouldn't be so bad if he drove thru at noon, but I mentioned to him that he drives thru during prime hunting hours. Supposedly he is coming from work.

I have 33 acres & he goes right thru the middle. Supposedly he put a tiny house on his 17 acres.

That has been 1 idea I'm pondering.
Wisconsin is tough because most private woodland is small parcels & land fragmentation is such a problem- And neighbors effect things so much & things can change rapidly.

Deer get used to cars and trucks , farm equipment , and even ATV's if they keep a patern of where they're used.
I used to see deer all the time while working fields with a tractor , they would let you get close also.
If you stopped , they watched you , it you shut down the tractor or got off it , they were gone.
While running a trap line with an ATV same thing ,they watched you and wouldn't run unless you stopped and got off.

Not ideal but deer adjust. Think about all of the deer in neighborhoods and along highways. They don't bolt every time a car passes.

Deer on my farm will often just watch me drive by or move into the woods out of the field and watch from there. As long as I don't stop or drive at them they just watch. We drive around the farm a few times a day feeding and watering.

He’s definitely going to be hunting soon! By next year he’ll be waiting for you to pull up so he can show you the big buck he shot on the property.
I love it here! laugh

I lived in northern wisconsin near the shores of lake superior for many years and we lived on a 160 acres of woods and farmland. Every year I had bucks grazing in the fields that my wife and I drove past every day and our vehicles plus that of our friends, and it did not phase the deer from using the fields until deer rifle season. One year a 5x5 whitetail failed to make it past opening day. He was 198 lbs field dressed. Wish I was still there.

Maybe you could set up on one side and have him drive the road at an odd time. Might scare up a buck!

In late winter when log trucks park at the end of the day behind the mill, drivers walk around doing checks, wiping lights. Deer will come out from wood edges, when drivers finish and leave the deer move in to lick road salt off tires. Do you own or just use adjoining land? 17 acres with easement splitting your land, I would have tried buying it....

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Deer won't be bothered by it at all. Like said, especially if it's patterned. They bed by the side of the road here, walk right up while equipment is running etc...
Seems funny to buy a property with an easement through the middle but it is what it is. If all you have is one vechile coming and going to work I can't see how that would be a problem.

I have seen Deer many times feeding on the shoulder of a major interstate highway. All those vehicles just become part of the scenery.
