The title sums it up. I don't get what she is saying. I can smell them but it doesn't smell bad to me. They still feel a bit greasy. Could the problem be I didn't degrease them well enough?

That could be one of the reasons. Did you use any deodorizer or degreaser during the process?

I used naphtha but I am not sure I used it correctly. I think I might try soap and water next time. Can soap and water be used as a degreaser successfully? I have Burch's book on tanning and it doesn't seem he goes into using soap and water as a degreaser. I cannot afford any prepared decreasing formulas.

I found a link where it said you are supposed to soak the fleshed coons for a couple days in the naphtha. I only soaked them a couple hours. Is that correct to soak the coon skins for a couple of days?
