What a plethora of lovelies Jerry has caught already.

I couldn't sit on the floor among all the marten furs ready for tanning, admiring them all . It would be like throwing a dozen tennis balls at once , and the dog going crazy, not able to get them all in his mouth

Stick a collar or string on my marten so he doesn't get lost among the other beauties , please !

Getting done in the high country just in time. More snow scheduled in the north country here today , tomorrow . This low system will be churning more south to where Jerry is soon.

He's got it marked but even if he hadn't none.of the others have that much orange on it.

He's gonna try to get another week maybe 10 days depending on his catch and weather.

Boco, I've thought about that . Yes there is everything here-marten, wolverine, fox, most all my favourites.

At this time, I'm enjoying illustrating the trap and snare sets I'm commissioned to do , learning on every new story and set . And , enjoying immensely in the happiness of trappers here and their success.

Aside from being my own very active ADC boss ovah my estate here, for many years, I'm content with the schedule I've got at present.

Howevah. Someday, I want to be taught, in person, how to skin a marten to perfection . I know their hides are quite delicate and require special handling.

Meantime, I'm the cheering section for others in this orchestra .

You can skin a marten the same way you skin most other furbearers, case skin. leave the feet on the skin or don't. Depends on how you want to sell or on what you want to do with the hide. I've never considered them delicate. Once the rear feet and tail are out you can pull the hide down to the shoulders. Release the front feet and pull it down to the ears. Some people up here start at the mouth and pull the hide down.
Probably a few you tubes out there on the subject.

So I know nothing about martens. What are the jugs for?

Basically the jugs act as an artificial cubby that is (secured with wire and nails). This set up holds the bait/lure and prevents access to the bait except from the obvious exposed open end is guarded by a trap. Removing the jug lid allows air flow and better odor release of your bait/lure odor. The cubby also helps protect and shields the bait from birds.

Some use long spring traps others prefer conibear traps. That all depends upon the type of set and the preferred trap.

A conibear is anchored in place with either a mounting bracket or a few nails hammered in a log or tree to easily secure the trap jaws in a set position. As soon as the trap is fired the trap falls away.

You might be in the right situation. You have to have the animals first. Then you have to understand location and then ya gotta have one hellacious work ethic.

You can't go to the house at noon. And expect to make a great catch.

And ill tell ya..some people think they want a big catch but when the fur starts piling up and the real work starts,they decide its more than they really want.

And he has his bad days catchwise too.

He caught one marten and one rat on Tuesday



So even he has bad days.

The weather sucks..he knows the animals are there,but the weather had got em in hold.
