Grew up with a big batch of them. About 50 or so. Kinda miss them

As the story goes way back in the 50's my Grandpa and his brother shared farm equipment back and forth. His brother had a few running around his place. Grandpa went to grab his grain truck and one was sitting on the tailgate. He figured it would hop off when he started moving and didn't think a thing about it. That bird held on for 5 miles all the way home. Grandpa told his brother he'd bring it back and got told to keep the dang thing. So, there was one lone guinea running around here. Grandma felt sorry for it being all by itself and went to the local hatchery and bought a dozens keets. Didn't realize they breed like guppies. In a couple years they were everywhere. 30 years later they kinda started disappearing for some reason. The last one was in the field in thick hay and went through the swather in the early 90's. I keep thinking about starting them again but haven't yet.

I have 13.

I like them but they're not as tame as yours. I wish they were but they're bug eating machines.

Larry, the females are a bit smaller, and when they are feeding or wandering around, they sound like a squeaky wheel! All of them go “yak yak yak” real loud when some one alarms them. The males are the best dressed like all birds. They are also the ones chasing the females. They pair up in latespring, and are easy to tell then!

LB, been awhile but if my memory is still holding. Sexing can be visual, by the wattles males have larger wattles and larger helmet, vocal is a very high pitch " Key Key .............. ". Female's have smaller wattles and smaller their vocal is " buckwheat buckwheat ........... ". If need be I stand corrected . Tut
