What is everyone’s opinion pro/con of replacing the brass pan screw to stainless steel on MB 750?

I prefer stainless with a nylon insert nut that actually allows pan tension to be adjusted.

That’s a good idea about the nylon washer. My problem with the brass screw is that I try to adjust the pan tension and the brass screw is a flat head and it strips out and I can’t tighten it enough to change my pan tension so I’ve retroed two of them to the stainless and I like the stainless I just wondered what the benefit of the brass was.

Brass doesn't rust and seize up. It is what was available as an upgrade before stainless. IMO, no reason for brass on anything but the cheapest traps. For coyote, beaver, cat traps they should be stainless or better yet no nut or bolt at all.

I have been going to try that. The worst part of that trap is the bolt, mine are either too tight or too loose. They are hard to get at and the head strips out.

There are brass bolts w/hex heads.

To expand on my earlier post:

As Warrior said, brass was an upgrade.
But I don’t like the soft metal with a slot for a screwdriver.
Plus I dislike the annoying process of trying to adjust tension that will not last.
Even more, I dislike a missing pan.

So I buy stainless bolts with a hex head.
I add a stainless washer on each side.
Lastly I add a stainless nylon insert nut which allows tension to be adjusted and remain consistent.
It can be adjusted from completely loose to a heavy tension.
The result is an adjustable system that is easily and reliably adjusted rather than an faulty annoying nuisance. Plus no more missing pans.

I agree. If a trap must have a pan bolt it should be stainless and ideally a hex head the same size as the nylock nut so a pair of nut drivers can be used. Also the pan post should be parallel with washers or bushing so it bears evenly on the pan shank with a hole size matched to bolt diameter. All this will give the smoothest consistent firing.

It is also why I dislike bolts of any kind on traps. I much prefer dogless or pawsitrip that attach to the spring pin. Nothing to loosen and relies solely on geometry to maintain tension.
