I have recently purchased a cargo trailer to haul my new ATV. It 16 ft long and 95 inches height with a roof rack for a ladder.

I am looking at getting a tent i.e. canvass tent to be mounted/ connected to the roof rack. The tent is to be installed on top of the ramp.

I am looking at getting a set up that can be used for hunting, fishing and camping.

Does anyone have a trailer with a similar set up?

Thanks

Why not stay inside the 16' enclosed trailer?

My buddy and I are looking at getting a cargo trailer to take elk hunting. We have done it all in the past.... but we want to take our quads. Last year we took a 16 ft V nose. The two quads fit good with our other gear packed in along side or on top the quads. We stayed in the trailer after we unloaded the gear. We had a small wall tent for a cook shack/gathering place for meals, freezer, gen, Cabelas 8 man Alaskan Guide tent for 2 other buddies, shower stall, pop up blind for an outhouse, a tub turned with a toilet seat for the outhouse, 4 cots, sleeping bags, pillows, other personal gear duffel bags, propane tanks, heaters, lites, ext cords, wood stove, stove pipes, chain saw, maul, extra tarps, ropes, tools (axes,shovels,hammer..etc..etc). You can sleep in the trailer but if several buddies go it's nice to have a good camp. I've elk hunted in short sleeves and also had to have snow watch every hour to keep the snow from collapsing our tent... at 4 above. WE are going to buy a trailer and then mount a way to attach rafters and a tarp along one side of the trailer on the top corner of the roof. It will kinda be like a lean too the length of the trailer and out 8 to 10... maybe 12 foot. We'll leave the wall tent cook shack at home. We will store what we can under the trailer and block off what open so the lean too should be tight. Plan on a wood stove in the lean too. Should be able to heat the trailer inside with heat from the stove. We hunt out west for 7 to 10 days. I plan on retiring and then I'll stay a whole month and my buddies can come and go.... PM me if you want ... we can exchange ideas

I converted a 16 ft cargo trailer into a toy hauler / camper this year specifically for elk hunting in colorado. It will haul two ATVs. I have two drop down cots that convert into a king size bed, a kitchen, a shower stall, and small portable toilet. I built everything modular so I can take it all out in just a few minutes and use it as a cargo trailer. I will try and post some more interior pictures and a video of it in the next day or so. It turned out great and was perfect for Elk camp.

Sounds good NebrCatMan,

I am planning on meeting with a tent supplier within next month to see how he can custom build what I want. Once I know what needs to be done for the stucture of the tent, I plan on meeting up with wielder for light aluminium framing.

I also plan on making side extension that will be connected to side of the trailer where the door is located. On this side I plan on mounting aluminium framing that will be covered with canvas material, type of awning that can be used during summer months and that can be closed off in during fall i.e. to be used as a sitting area. I too plan on installing small wood stove within thid side of the V nose trailer.

Marty, I don`t plan on installing windows to prevent b&e and theft. This trailer will be parked in hotel parking lots during winter months so less thieves see, better it is. Without openings, I beleive it would be very warm to sleep in trailers during summer months, so building a screen door (where door is situated) with tent extension at the back of the trailer should allow sufficient air flow, I think.

Last week I picked up Husky metal cabinets at Home Depot along with a small fridge. It should do the trick. If all goes well, interior wiring will likely be done within couple weeks.

I plan on using this trailer all years around. Retirement will be happening in couple years from now so if I ever plan on getting a trapline up north, this trailer will work just fine...I can`t wait.

I made wooden bunks for the back of mine.
slide them along the side of the trailer and fill it up then put back up when you take out your ride. Inside has tables, racks and storage.
Works out good.

I have an 18x 8 1/2 foot flat nose. Ramp rear door. Put a wood stove, propane stove out of a old camper and propane light in it. Fold down bunk and fold down table. Can load my fourwheeler or snowmobile in it and pack stuff around it. Works great except for a couple of issues, if running a snowmobile you have to park it where you can snowmobile from camp, sometimes there isn't enough snow at the last available campsite and too much to tow it to the next one. And I'm married now (single when I fixed it up) can only haul one snowmobile or fourwheeler in it the way I have it set up, so I can't haul another one for the wife. Been thinking about getting one of the overbed decks to haul the wife's snowmachine or fourwheeler on the pickup, I don't really like them, especially on bad roads, but the best solution I have come up with, leaves the bed under the deck to haul gear or the hounds in.

I would like to, I have it filled up with insulation from front to back.
I used some kitchen cabinets in the front in the v. Added some plywood and framing to mount the cabinets.
Added rope lights to the top of the trailer wall. Lights it up nice. Added an exterior outlet on the outside of the trailer to get power to the inside.
I have some closet shelving organizers from Home depot for storage.
We use deck chairs for inside seating and use roll up tables from elk hunting as tables inside.
I used 3/4 " conduit and tarps to make a dry space outside the door. I put a center pole in to stiffen in case of rain to make sure it drains.
Youtube has several videos on making good use of your trailer.

No worries. I have already looked at some videos. Some of the videos I have seen are basically people converting cargo trailer to travel trailer. I am searching for pictures/ videos of trailers that were tailored for what we do...hunting, fishing, camping, ATV ridding and possibly trapping. Stuff that is made to last and that can take some abuse.

Thanks
