My buddy and I are looking at getting a cargo trailer to take elk hunting. We have done it all in the past.... but we want to take our quads. Last year we took a 16 ft V nose. The two quads fit good with our other gear packed in along side or on top the quads. We stayed in the trailer after we unloaded the gear. We had a small wall tent for a cook shack/gathering place for meals, freezer, gen, Cabelas 8 man Alaskan Guide tent for 2 other buddies, shower stall, pop up blind for an outhouse, a tub turned with a toilet seat for the outhouse, 4 cots, sleeping bags, pillows, other personal gear duffel bags, propane tanks, heaters, lites, ext cords, wood stove, stove pipes, chain saw, maul, extra tarps, ropes, tools (axes,shovels,hammer..etc..etc). You can sleep in the trailer but if several buddies go it's nice to have a good camp. I've elk hunted in short sleeves and also had to have snow watch every hour to keep the snow from collapsing our tent... at 4 above. WE are going to buy a trailer and then mount a way to attach rafters and a tarp along one side of the trailer on the top corner of the roof. It will kinda be like a lean too the length of the trailer and out 8 to 10... maybe 12 foot. We'll leave the wall tent cook shack at home. We will store what we can under the trailer and block off what open so the lean too should be tight. Plan on a wood stove in the lean too. Should be able to heat the trailer inside with heat from the stove. We hunt out west for 7 to 10 days. I plan on retiring and then I'll stay a whole month and my buddies can come and go.... PM me if you want ... we can exchange ideas

Sounds good NebrCatMan,
I am planning on meeting with a tent supplier within next month to see how he can custom build what I want. Once I know what needs to be done for the stucture of the tent, I plan on meeting up with wielder for light aluminium framing.
I also plan on making side extension that will be connected to side of the trailer where the door is located. On this side I plan on mounting aluminium framing that will be covered with canvas material, type of awning that can be used during summer months and that can be closed off in during fall i.e. to be used as a sitting area. I too plan on installing small wood stove within thid side of the V nose trailer.
Marty, I don`t plan on installing windows to prevent b&e and theft. This trailer will be parked in hotel parking lots during winter months so less thieves see, better it is. Without openings, I beleive it would be very warm to sleep in trailers during summer months, so building a screen door (where door is situated) with tent extension at the back of the trailer should allow sufficient air flow, I think. Last week I picked up Husky metal cabinets at Home Depot along with a small fridge. It should do the trick. If all goes well, interior wiring will likely be done within couple weeks.
I plan on using this trailer all years around. Retirement will be happening in couple years from now so if I ever plan on getting a trapline up north, this trailer will work just fine...I can`t wait.

Can you post some pics of the inside (racks and storage)?
Thanks I would like to, I have it filled up with insulation from front to back. I used some kitchen cabinets in the front in the v. Added some plywood and framing to mount the cabinets. Added rope lights to the top of the trailer wall. Lights it up nice. Added an exterior outlet on the outside of the trailer to get power to the inside. I have some closet shelving organizers from Home depot for storage. We use deck chairs for inside seating and use roll up tables from elk hunting as tables inside. I used 3/4 " conduit and tarps to make a dry space outside the door. I put a center pole in to stiffen in case of rain to make sure it drains. Youtube has several videos on making good use of your trailer.
