Get one or two weird catches every year. Keeps trapping interesting. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-21521-156471-dscf5206.jpg) And a beaver in a 330. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-21521-156472-dscf5207.jpg)

Well that'd be a pleasant surprise!
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Nah you won't get a fox to go into a 120. Might try a 220 and that might still get refusals.
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I'm a multi species trapper, boxes work great for my style of trapping. I dont go out of my way to trap mink,I take them when trapping beaver, marten etc.when I see sign.Like many other type of sets good mink box locations produce mink every year if set. Most I would catch on a high year would be 40 or so,on low years maybe 15-20.Mink normally go under the ice here in late december. Some get caught in marten boxes if there is a jan thaw,or in feb when the bucks wander looking to breed.
There are some here who target mink when prices were high and trap with boxes before freeze up-they would normally take 60 or so in a couple weeks with boxes. Baited boxes for mink have to be set where mink use.

I bought a lot of newspaper tubes from a trapper getting out of it who used to trap in Wyoming for marten and was planning on using them for mink.

I once caught a fox in a pocket rigged with a drowning cable. I expected to catch either mink or coon. Part of the fox was floating. From a distance I thought I had caught someone's dog.

Do you do good with baited mink boxes? A lot of guys have told me they don't work. I agree with "Boco", Whether using footholds or body grip traps, the main things to remember about the boxes are to set on LOCATION where mink travel, camouflage the box well with surrounding vegetation/snow or whatever and HIDE the BAIT with dry grass so the mink will enter the box searching for it, and keep the bait fresh. I have also caught a number of fox in 120 mink box sets over the years.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I've had both bobcats and coyotes reach their front feet into marten boxes and get caught by the foot. In all cases they pulled out of standard Victor 120's. I'm pretty sure that if those 120's were Belisle 120's, and if they were fastened better I would have held them.

I got a few coyotes in Belisle 220 sizes traps and they were all held by there front leg. One by the head. I bet a 120 Belisle would hold one like Waggler says.
Just passin through

None of those are in magnum traps, all mink traps(old waxed bmi 120s). Those traps also kill otter stone dead, they dont even get their head out of the box.Otter carotids must be near the surface since they expire so quickly in those small weak traps. The only time i ever remember catching a canine by the foot in a bodygrip was a silver fox, that leaped up to a marten box set opening up five feet off the ground.Probably caught a dozen or so fox by the head in mink boxes over the years. Most of my marten traps are b 120 LDLs Caught a cat by the foot in one once that was set on the ground. Caught a few cats by the head in elevated 120 marten boxes, set with opening down and opening up.
Surprize catches like that each season keeps the job of trapping interesting
