Anybody use this rifle? Mine is a stainless .308. Action seems rough and loud compared to 700s.

Can I smooth it up somehow?

Likely, but not something you can phone in, needs to be looked at by a competent gunsmith, a machinist, or machinist adjacent.

Depending on degree and cause of roughness some cycling with lapping compound can work off minor burrs and help things match up but if something is seriously out of whack like one lug bearing a smith machinist will be needed. You can do a rough check by lipsticking the lugs and closing it then looking at the rub marks.

Loud is a property of barrel length. The model seven has a carbine length barrel. Longer barrels give a more complete burn and less muzzle blast.

something you can try is grease up the outside of the bolt and run the bolt several hundred times , then wipe all the grease off and see how it is

it has smoothed out some new guns I have done it too.

I have one in .243.

I sent it back to Remington who did nothing for a couple months and returned it.

Next sent it to a highly regarded gunsmith in Montana. He studied it and recommended that the action should be smoothed, honed, polished, glazed, stoned, slickened, and/or waxed or something that greatly improved it.

Also had a trigger job and the bore lapped with abrasive. Unfortunately he died in an accident. Fortunately he had guns labeled. His widow returned 3 to me.

I carried one of mine today in 7-08 and it is silky smooth as always. Maybe you should just sell it to me. smile

I have nothing clever to put here.

Sometimes on Remington's the stock lug bolts are to long or over tightened and will interfere with the bolt travel. With a little work and skill they can be made to work pretty smooth!!

160 - my .243 or charles’ .308?

If mine, send me an offer by PM.
Stainless with synthetic stock.
Leupold base and rings.
Leupold 3-9x40. 1” tube.
I have about $350 in the gunsmith work.

As Mark says, I have learned that shortening the stock bolt will end the hang feeling,
The bolt is glassy smooth from the work.

I have both 204 Ruger and 243. Actions are smooth as glass. Deadly accurate but due to the shorter barrel quite a bit of a blast.

What are you using for a lube?

Is it a new or used gun? Either way it should be thoroughly cleaned.

Also, this will be controversial but, throw the hoppes, rem oil and CLP in the trash.
Get some slip 2000 ewl for lube.

Also, put a small amount of grease on the back of the bolt lugs.
Get some shooters grease or just a tube of Lucas grease.
