Very nice!
I’m waiting for the ice to get a bit thicker too. Went out to the shack with buddies like we do every year, I tagged out during archery so I was gonna hammer a few ponds in the area. Got a Colorado low the first night and cool temps since. Tried a dam break a long way from any lodge but nothing came to fix it. Got a mink to skin though, oh well, couple more weeks maybe?

Setting the den entrances at the house id paydirt.
But check the ice even in mid winter.if its a mature colony with 8-12 beaver there WILL be thin ice/open water in runs.

Boco !

Are we there yet ? Are we there yet ? Are we there yet ?

Ice thickening ??

Just kidding...I'm just wanting to see nice clear close up shots of that lodge. I've always loved beaver lodges, how they work, the extensive dams they build. I like to quietly sneak up on them and watch them almost within touching range, as they sit on their house and groom themselves, not noticing me at all.

I wont go back for a few more days.Going to a different spot today though so will take a couple pics.
I have watched beaver countless times going about their buisness.Absolutely the best way to learn about their habits.

OK.

Yes I've parked a canoe up against lodges in spring, and listened to the wee babies squeak like toys inside. Had adults sitting on their tails right up against the canoe grooming and sunning. Once in a while they squint up at me, motionless as a statue, and seem to ask, " what in tarnation is this piece of floating driftwood at my house ? " Fun.

Boco, not trying to take over your thread but since Sharon is so hot for big beaver houses I thought about adding some of my pictures from the 1970's. Sorry for the poor quality but these were from those instamatic cameras that only took pictures, then I put them on slides and later digitally. Enjoy!

And finally a picture from May in the high country with still over six foot of snow on the ground, yet water is open. That dark spot slightly left of middle is the top of the beaver house.

What beautiful scenes, Kelly . Thank you. I think every lodge and flowage has its own custom build and character.

These are shots of a nice flowage not too far from me. The lodge was out of sight, on private land, but the rest of the area is by public county road. I've heard the lodge is a nice one, and have had plans to find the property owner and ask if I can snoop around to find and photograph the lodge . Others have told me that he wouldn't mind if I did a bit. So far, I haven't been able to make some time for it, but at some point I want to.

The area is active and flowage areas continue under the road and onto the other side . Very pretty area.

No problem Kelly.
I will look for a few older pics of houses.
Today I broke a trail up to the Mountain on my close trapline.
Rode the skidoo right to the top and parked there and just enjoyed the view for a while, looking out over my realm.
Tracks on top of the mountain were squirrell rabbit fisher marten weasel and cats.
There are Marten boxes installed all along the trail up to the mountain, about 5 miles, put up by the previous trapper-they look to be in good shape,I may set them up next run up that way.

An old long abandoned fire tower on top of the mountain
Can see a beaver pond off in the distance in one pic and a snow squall.

That's just some country that is out of my realm of imagination. Thanks for taking us along!

I am aware where feed beds are located. A little hard to tell from the picture what's going on. Boco is leading us a long I think.
