Something with a carburetor, points and clutch. I'm about sick of vehicles I can't tear down and put back together.

A 50's to-60's m 37. Or maybe similar old truck. Maybe even a two ton 2wd and put in a more modern drive training make it 4x4. There is not a new truck out now that I would want especially at current prices. I could spend less than 20k and build exactly what I wanted.

I dont mind electronic ignition. doesnt have to have points. no computer though. one coil and a distributer. carb. replace the chain driven transfer case with gear driven if it hasnt already been done. manual transmission, manual window cranks and door locks.

hard to find a 70's early eighties model 4wd pickup with enough left to build a new truck out of it.

it is a real shame you cant just buy one anymore new or a full size car.

Are you talking new truck?

If so, I like my GMC Canyon. I also looked hard at the Nissan Frontier.

If you're going off road with it, and don't need alot of box space, Go with the smaller trucks (well my last S10 was garbage). The big/heavy trucks are junk off road in comparison. I'm on my 4th big truck and they will never compare to the Tacoma sized trucks in mud and snow (yeah we have a lot of snow up here that you don't).

If I didn't have to have the 8 ft box for wood, etc, I'd buy a Tacoma, personally.

So which of these new modern trucks can be chained up all the way around like the old ones could be for when it really gets nasty?

Got another Taycoma this year ... my 13 is still going strong too.. plan on letting my boys run around in it when they’re older

[Linked Image]

... wasn’t able to keep it clean for long .. 4x4 is just as strong on the newer ones as the old ... I could do without all the electronic stuff in the cab though

I will disagree with you 100% on this. I drove jeeps and small Toyota for years and thought they were great untill I got my excursion with 7.3. Omg what a difference. Snow and ice that would give the small rigs trouble( fighting the stearing and some forward and back the 9600 lb excursion goes right through and strait down the road effortlessly. Guys In a 1/2 ton 1500 Chevy trying to pull a jeep back up on the road giving it all they had. Started slow stoped after nearly yanking the Cherokee in half. I pulled up and asked I they wanted me to give it a try. They got arrogant and acted like it was pointless. I idled and pulled the Jeep right out..

Off road in mud. There is a off road driving place people take their jeeps and such. They had video crews and a big event jeeps all trying to get up one of thi hills and failing. They were on a high horse all their rides were just the most bestest there was. Probably between 50 to 75 built jeeps. Ok watch this. The excursion went up that hill down turnd around and then I backed up that hill. Sure left a lot of mouths hanging open. I should have made some bets first. 3/4 of the county I ran as a kid is all old coal mine and 320

In soup bottomless mud holes the heavies will sink and a wide tire light truck has an advantage, but in the majority of situations there is no substitute for the weight and power advantage.

Welp looks like the Tacoma is gonna be what I'm looking at. I'm like y'all, hate all the electric stuff.

Most of the new ones don't recommend chains on the front, or specifically state not to chain the fronts. Not sure what truck designers are doing these days.
