Not sure about the Texan thing…… but this is inexpensive and keeps the rain and slop off you. I don’t like having my ears covered with a knit or wool hat.

Where I am this hat is good,warm light and keeps the snow off well.When not on your head you can turn it inside out and roll it up and stick it in your pocket.

This is basically what everyone in Texas looks like. You'll see them walk out of a honkey tonk holding the hand of a gal whos covered in sparkles and will make the 6 inch lift in the truck look more like a 3 inch lift.

I don’t know about all that Lefty…….. wasn’t even aware of that Texas look until Donner pointed it out. I will mention that I am not that— shall we say “ well dressed”…..

I figured every man in Texas dressed and looked like Little Jimmy… lol

Although I have seen several up here stagger out at closing time with a few that were about a turkey sandwich shy of 300 lbs…. Plenty of those to keep you warm..

For spring, fall and winter I like a brimmed wool felt hat. Reasonably warm and rainproof. I don't like wearing a hood in the rain. The brimmed hat keeps my peripheral vision and ears clear even in the rain. I've had the same $35 Cabela's brand wool felt hat for probably 15 years. It's still holding up good. If I were to buy another one i'd look around Cabela's again or get a Stetsons explorer hat. The Stetson is $65 on some sites. They don't look like cowboy hats which I like.

I’ve used the same hat from Cabelas as well…… what I don’t care for is it does not hold its shape. The brim seems to “flatten out” ……. even while I am wearing it…… comfortable though and holds up to the weather well

I spend my summers working in the sun all day everyday, and I've struggled with this issue for years. I've tried many of the fishing/sun/garden hats and found the brims to be too narrow. I even tried going Texan, but, though the brims are wider, they point upward which makes them ineffective except at high noon. Lately, I've gone with wide-brimmed straw hats where the brim is angled down. Not sure how they are marketed. You might find them called lifeguard hats? Found mine at Orscheln's. Around here stampede strings are a necessity if you don't want to chase your hat to the next county. You may have to decide, as I did, that looking good is a lower priority than delaying the onset of skin cancer. I've been half-tempted to try a paddy hat.

This Filson wool packer hat is what I wear in the winter, I've had mine for over twenty years and wear it around a hundred days a year. I need to get a new one, the lining and sweatband are worn gone, and the edge of the brim on the back where it rubs on a backpack, truck seat, or coat collar when riding one of the old style snowmobiles where you had to stand up bent over all the time, is worn through to the stuff they use to stiffen the brim. Otherwise the wool is still good though.

Summertime is tougher, I've worn felt crushers some in the summer but they don't last well for me and are fairly warm. I usually just wear a ball cap, but that doesn't protect you from the sun. In the rain I wear the Filson packer hat made out of tin cloth.

I'm a fedora man myself. Lots of great options out there and they say chic's really dig'em. I mean I walk into the local pub wearing one and head on over to the prettiest gal at the bar. With the words of Don Juan and a John Wayne swagger, I say, " baby, you lookin better than a new set of snow tires in the dead of winter. How about you go out with me so you can say you've been out with a real man".

They laugh real hard and others point and laugh and I usually for some reason go home alone. But, I think they really liked my hat.

Try it with a Texas hat on and see if the results are the same or if you need to replace the passenger side shock on the truck the next morning.

Lol. No. Here if you show up with a cowboy hat and wranglers on your in for it. Everyone will either think your gay, missed a good chance to be, or stopping in for a belt before you go to a costume party lol. Texas don't go well here.
