Best dove hunting I have ever seen was in southern Arizona, in December. I couldn't describe the volume of birds.

Just doing what I want now.

alaska viking- Are some of those AZ doves "white-winged doves"? We don't get those up this far north.

If the Eurasian doves are legal to trap in your states, there are good markets for them.

i am guessing they are collard doves they moved in around 10 years ago in Wy and stay all winter. They are just as fun to hunt and no season on them here and just as good to eat.

Give them time. It seems that once ECDs hit a certain density in town they start ranging out into the country. For a long time here they were only in town. Over the last ten years occasionally we harvest them 50:50 with mourning doves during the season. Interestingly, if you shoot some ECD during winter you will find birds with frozen feet

danvee- I'd love if SD GF&P people would break the 2 out between each other AND allow us to take collared doves with a pellet rifle. But that might be too much forward thinking.

My brother has pigeons that nest inside his metal "Morton" building out on his acreage. He has been unable or not motivated enough to take those suckers out and they ***t on everything in that building. Paratroop kid will be home for Christmas and I think he and I will do a search and destroy of those flying turds over his vacation. It might be fun...

Morning dove love a "open space concept" so what happens is they follow electrical lines north because of their open space's in the forest and a overhead wire to perch and look-out. I have seen them as far north as the port Churchill on Hudson Bay and on the spit on the other tip towards Ontario. The morning dove population is reduced from what it was 20 years ago in southern Manitoba. Migration is finished by 1 Oct each year and only a millet field will hold them any later.
Gulo has posted some good hunts on the introduced species that he has.

Remember that that not all small birds are "lbb's"
