The problem isn’t that it’s the coldest the uk has ever been, because it’s not

The problem is transitioning away from Fossil fuels has put most European people into energy poverty

Heat or eat is a choice many face

Same thing happening here in NA too a lesser degree

Only going too rapidly get worse

I didn’t read all the post so someone may have explained what is going on across the pond. They have went all in on green energy. They are currently experiencing a “Wind Drought” that’s their terminology not mine. Wind doesn’t blow equals no wind turbines spinning equals a bunch of cold folks. I have no sympathy at all and I also understand it’s coming soon to a town near all of us.

Everything the left touches it destroys

In England back in the 60's when I used to spend time there as a kid every house and small buisness heated with coal burned in an open fireplace.Every house had a coal shed and the coal man would come once or twice a year and fill up the shed with hard coal. Some houses had a couple small fireplaces in different areas.Cook stoves were gas.
In Ireland most homes in the country (and lots in the city)heat with Turf still although many have electric most burn turf cut from the peatbogs.
I love the smell of the turf fire.Turf in the old days was hand cut with a slane and piled up in small piles on the bog, then when dry picked up and piled up at the farm. Now the turf is cut with machinery and pressed into bricks.
Town people bought their turf or had it delivered like the coal in England.

i believe they are now phasing out the use of peat for generating electricity and going with wind power.
Lots of wind in Ireland not so much solar, lol.

People in the country will still cut and burn turf, just like rural people here burn wood.

Point being that, people in the country wont freeze because it doesnt get cold enough and they can cut and burn turf when needed.
