Was scrolling around the interwebs a while back got to the UK side of the trapping world. Ended up joing a group on FB as well as a forum. Will say I think their a bit behind the times but they have some interesting stuff in the less and some of them are pretty fun to chat with.
Anyhow.
The subject of rat snaring popped up a few times and found how they did it kind interesting. One main way ( think it's kind a one of the more advanced..... primitive means, if that makes sense) in had a deal that was basically like a vertical spring snare . Was like a stick with sling shot elastic band attached to one end a snare on the end of that and a toggle for an inverted figure 4 trigger. Can't find the picture I saw a while ago but these are some similar deals.

Well seemed they worked pretty decent but seemed like you could probably build something that would last long and be more compact so since my current project got cancelled for tonight figured why not. So looked though the scrap bucket and parts drawer and cam up with this. Just some 3/8's and 1/4 rod and a spring really. Added a length of light wire to the toggle to act a s a little snare support. Just need a picture wire or brass snare and tread it to the eye on the toggle and wrap it in the end of the support. Rat get in the snare , struggles slightly and YOINK !

Nothing really serious at all just messing around . But that being said I bet I could make some of these a little better and seel them to these survival guys for a pretty decent penny grin
Anyway y'all have a good night

Wolfie...you simply amaze me with your thinking "outside the box."...if you decide to not become a gunsmith, check out an engineering school.

Thank you ! Can't really say it was out side the box though honestly, just taking the wheel and changing it from stone to rubber laugh

That's pretty cool. If you catch a rat with it maybe you can post a pic.

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.

Hmm maybe borrow a bit from the back of a picture hanging in somebody's house. Heavy fishing line might work if they can't or don't chew it better yet swap out some picture wire from some frame with some fishing line

Ened up I had some stainless 3/64th lying around and it made a decent enough little snare to show

Wolfie- you need to make the Rat size version or derivative of the 400-year-old Mascall Trap... I had fun making this one, It comes in handy when making mouse-based baits.
