Has anyone on here bought a SAVAGE MKII F BOLT ACTION RIFLE BLACK .22LR 21 INCH 5 RD SYNTHETIC STOCK?

[Linked Image]

I've been thinking about getting one to carry on my ATV for trapping season. What are your thoughts on the rifle I know they are pretty cheap but I want something that I don't have to worry so much about getting muddy or scratched up while trapping. Thanks

Good choice...might consider buying an additional mag or two for a back up....and a sling.

have the heavy barrel version MKII-FVT

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the standard barrel version MKII-F at all for a hunting/farm/all purpose gun

the only down thing I can say about them is the magazines are stamped folded tin and can be an issue if you put them in your pocket and sit on them

not particularly sturdy magazines so a spare is a good idea but as long as you don't smash or bend it , it has been fine maybe carry your spare magazine in a case or shirt pocket.
the 10 round mags also fit in the gun they stick out some but you could get one as a spare or primary and keep a little more ammo on tap.

no other 22 we have makes so many brands of ammo look good on paper with nice little groups , golden bullets and other bulk stuff shooting dine size groups at 25 yards the CCI SV stuff shooting under a dime.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I used to have the wood stocked version and it was very accurate right out of the box, the trigger could be easily adjusted to be a decent hunting trigger, it was not ammo sensitive and was completely reliable. The synthetic stock should make it even more appealing as an ATV rifle. I replaced the one I had with a 22 magnum version as some of the WMAs I frequent prohibit centerfire rifles and obviously the magnum is a little better for coyotes and such, I am very happy with it. The only complaint I have with either one is it is easy to accidentally hit the magazine release and dislodge the magazine.

I have that gun with a bull barrel in 17 hmr. Very precise gun. Mine was pre accutrigger so I bought a kit to lighten it up. Not pretty guns, but functional and precise.

I used a Henry Mini Accu Bolt for years one the trapline and loved it. Super light and possibly the most accurate .22 I have seen out of the box, anyone who used it could shoot well

Our 4-H shooting club used that very same model in 3 position competition and took second place in the State Finals one year.
The only issue I have with them is the flimsy magazine. Not an issue for competition shooting, but can be with a gun which gets banged around on a trap line or in a truck.

I have never saw a savage .22 that would not shoot very well. I have an old savage 62 semi auto I got for $89 at Walmart 24 years ago. It shoots great and I can care less if something happens to it. The finish is gone and it has some surface rust. I will probably spray paint it.

A good gun has a good barrel and a good Trigger. Savage has both. I have a savage 17, 22, 223, 243, 6.5. All shooting sub MOA, their good enough for me. I am very picky when it comes to accuracy.
They are a little rough around the edges and if that bothers you for several hundred more you can smooth out the edges. But they wont shoot any better

I have the Mk II FVSR and wouldn't hesitate to buy another Savage if I needed another bolt action 22.

I've got a 2-7 scope on mine but a.red dot would probably work better on the trapline.

I have 3 of them. They will do anything you need and are accurate.

They are shooters for sure

Ruger American rimfire is another shooter with low price, and they use rotary mag that the 10/22 uses if you want another option

Can you get them in stainless? I'd get stainless for riding around on the ATV.

Yes but it's quite a bit more money for the stainless.

I can get the Savage Mark 11 F 22LR. for $156.95 at Walmart-Mart and for the Ruger American rimfire they want $449.00 I think I'll pass on a trapline rifle at is almost 3 X's the cost.
