I stopped at one up here the other day and I told my wife This isn’t a outdoors store anymore it’s a tourist attraction After seeing 5 grown adult men with backpacks and tights on in the first 2 minutes we had to get out of there, I could feel the feminism rubbing off on me lol Not to Mention the line was backed up to the gun section. (60 yards or so)

0 When I was a kid I spent hours looking at that catalog. George Herter could take just about anything and come up with a description that would make a Kansas boy dream he was transported to the North woods if he could just get his hands on that item. Guide association and Hudson’s Bay were two of his favorite catch words casting his spell. I own a 17 ft Herters canoe, a few traps and some fly tying gear that have survived. The Sears wish book came in a poor second although I still have a Vic #3 double long that I got for Christmas in 1968 that Dad ordered from Sears.Fond memories for sure.

Bass Pro Shop has totally ruined Cabela's. This. I live right close to the original Cabelas. BPS paid a lot of money to totally ruin Cabelas. Its a clothing store now, and the redhead brand is 100% junk. Now, I can find a better selection of ammo at Bomgaars at a better price yearround. The lifetime guarantee is now defined as the products lifetime, not the users. With a bit of creative shopping you can nearly always do better than BPS. Scheels has better supply of ammo, as does walmart. Disappointing really.

Check out the coni description in the lower right where they recommend them for trapping FISH lol.
Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you

We look back on these old relics with admiration and a twinkle in our eye and sometimes a sigh.... As folks have always done I imagine.
For fun, try and figure out what today's folks will look back on and reflect as we older folks now do....
Maybe, iPhones?

And the markup on prices is something else too. I can buy some traps or snares at cabelas, or I can order from direct source like wiebe, MN trapline, etc and get better deals. We have a scheels in Lincoln and I go there and find better deals and service. Scheels isn’t far behind though, becoming more and more like the others. The cabelas in Omaha isn’t really worth the drive it used to be.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
