Last winter we tapped about 10 black walnut trees on our property and ended up with 5 or 6 pints of syrup; everybody I let try it really liked it . . has anyone tried this with black walnut? Less sugar content than sugar maple so you need more sap but it's pretty tasty. This year, I got permission to tap walnuts and some sugar maples that are on the neighbors property down the road in exchange for a pint of syrup. The kids had fun running the 'sap line' every morning.

We have some black walnut trees if you need more to tap. I'm not a huge fan of maple syrup. Yes, my parents buy the real maple from southern Ontario, Canada produced by an old order Mennonite. It's too sweet for my taste. Black walnut syrup sounds interesting.

wanna be goat farmer.

Yes Tried it. like it.
We have 11 walnut trees in the yard.
Tapped 4 year before last.
First I ever tried tapping and boiling.
I took some syrup to a trapping get together for everyone to try.
had no complaints. Most said they liked it.

I was one of the guys that was lucky enough to try it and was great. A person would have never known this was your first time making it, you did a great job.

Thanks again for sharing it too!

I'll stick with Mrs. Butterworths if it tastes anything like the black walnuts.

A liberal college (Warren Wilson College) near me requires all students to work on campus. A student made some walnut syrup and the school sold it all in a day. A girl wanted to condense the steam and sell it as organic water. The law does not allow water to be labeled as such. She sold it as water from organic sources. It also sold out in one day. Not sure if it had any flavor or not.
