Over the years I've taken I think at least 5 different Tman members on my line to show them what I do. I never really worried about any of that coming back to haunt me. I used to be very shut-mouthed about my trapping to non-trappers, but have been opening up more in later years.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I have always been secretive as far as actual sets are concerned. It is, however, hard to hide certain types of sets, but a guy can do a lot of things to keep the traps away from prying eyes. That being said, I am very open about the fact i am a trapper. We need to keep in the public eye as much, or more, than hunters do, simply because most non-trappers are so uninformed about trapping in general. Even avid hunters and fishermen, overall, are ignorant about trapping. The more we are in the public, eye the better off we will be in the long run. I am NOT talking about bad attention though. One knucklehead setting a trap in the wrong spot, even if perfectly legal, can really give trapping a black eye. No explanation needed! Greg, what crew/cameraman came up to film you?

I’ve hidden traps so good I couldn’t find them. That'll come in handy at Easter . I used to be open to anyone, I didn't care, their spots my spots. Not anymore, I've turned in to the old Curmudgeons like in the boom. I did help a young man a couple weeks ago teaching him how to tune his traps because I knew he was out there giving it a go and he never ask for spots to trap. He just needed help tuning. Places to trap and hunt are hard to come by anymore, thanks to leasers, DNR's, and what not. I won't help anyone now if I don't know for sure they are truly a trapper, too many anti's have figured out how to infiltrate and they're good at it. There are some here. So, until they prove to me they are the real McCoy, they'll get nothing from me and when they do, I'll help them all I can. I'll give them some traps, teach what little I know, but they will have to find their own spots to trap. Get off my lawn.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I share trapping info and I also tell everyone my good fishing spots. They don't believe me, so they go somewhere else. Works good for me.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

When I first started trapping, I tried to learn everything that I could. There were people that were very helpful and went out of their way to answer whatever questions I had, and there were some people that wouldn’t answer anything, even if asked.
I truly appreciated finding detailed descriptions in the archives and informative tutorials were a goldmine. Knowing what it meant to get detailed answers, I try to make it a point to share what I can, when I can if I think someone may be interested in what I’m sharing.
When a pelt was worth a day’s paycheck, people were going to learn no matter what. Today, there are many more people and when it comes to non-trappers, the risk of conflict has increased, so to be honest it’s in everyone’s best interest that we share what works and, perhaps more importantly, what doesn’t work with each other. Like it or not, we’re all in this together. Trappers are having to fight for their rights in many states, and when people share, they’re making their presence known. When trappers don’t have a public voice, we give the upper hand to those that wish to take our tools.
Imagine a kid or even an adult fan asking a professional fisherman what his favorite lures were for the answer to commonly be “LOL! Find out for yourself, do you think I’d tell you anything for free?” —-The interest and industry would be in a downward spiral. Sharing, teaching, encouraging, and conversations today are all important parts of the entire industry tomorrow.

Great segment, Greg! I recognize a place or two. It is great that you had your daughter on the show too.
