Love taking kids along and helping get them started trapping, fishing or hunting but I draw the line at mushroom hunting, along with my favorite stretch of non stocked trout stream these places will go to my grave with me, lol.

I am not secretive at all. I do my best to make sets as far from dwellings and buildings as I can. Just to keep from catching domestics. Trappers in the 1960s, 70s, and into the 80s, were very secretive to protect their spots. With some of those trappers making a living from trapping it was understandable. But trappers being secretive hurt our love of trapping when the antis came out in force in the 1990s. I would say it was then that we started to come out of the shadows to show Mr. &Mrs. Public we were not the blood thirsty savages the antis portrayed us to be. I do help new trappers get involved and I do let them run my line with me.

Depends on the area I am in. Some people like to check my traps also.

It's always me alone or with my son(s). My oldest daughter likes checking traps with me. I'm no expert. But I am happy to pass on what I know.

However, when I trap my neighbors I'm reluctant to tell or show them where I set. I know they can't resist checking the traps on their place 12 times a day.

I'm not. More fun to find new spots.

Spent most of my life guiding. Been burned multiple times by former clients flying in later, setting up camp on the sweet spot

Resident trapping, I’ve been burned by a landowner asking too take his nephew out. Then the following season saying sorry, my nephew is going too trap. Followed a few years later by”my nephew isn’t trapping any more, can you come back??”

In many areas up here, the FNs have “first right of refusal” on rfma’s

In the early internet days I enjoyed posting pics of wilderness trapping/living,chainsaw milling, cabin building etc

Then came the FNs via heli inspecting my setup,,,,,,,,

Don’t post much any more

If it's private land i say come along. If it's public, I don't say much. As stated by others, loose lips sink ships. I've had it happen. Ya live and learn.

Extremely secretive. Especially when trapping bobcats, because in this country if people know where your stuff is you are 100% going to get gear and bobcats stolen, and if it doesn’t get stolen it’ll get sabotaged. Sad, but $300-$600 per bobcat brings out the worst kind of people.

I've shown a lot but not everything except to maybe 5 guys.
They have all sworn to secrecy.

During my younger years I did some trapping, back then no one really wanted to teach you the different set's or how to trap for certain fur. I learned as I went, catching muskrats and possum mostly by luck. About two years ago I got back into trapping mainly because it really interests me, I actually wouldn't mind sometime riding along with someone that has more experience and doesn't mind giving me some pointers.
