I live in a state with 5 months of deer season... but I think a holiday hunt is a great idea for school kids who are on break now! Holy cow! 5 months?
I have nothing clever to put here.

Does it matter what we think? absolutely not...they should abolish all these special hunts, starting with the doe only weekend hunt after muzzleloader season

my son is headed up to Dane county to try and clear some of the excess of deer from some private land he has been invited to hunt. unfortunately I have to be working.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

time is precious for me...I barely got to hunt or trap this year... so after the muzzleloader weekend I finally get a chance to go.....and have a few bucks around the property after the rifle season calms down...and I can't shoot my bow buck because of the doe only 4 day special season...

It's 4 full months plus 3 more days. 3 day Velvet season in September, then archery opens Oct.1st and runs through Nov. 18th. Gun opens on the 19th of November and closes January 31st.

I think there is a place for it. Some of our Ag lands are overrun with deer yet all the hunters are holding out for "the Big Buck". The youth hunts have been able to bring in more hunters and experience a positive hunt. I would actually like to see an "Old Timer" hunt where we could maybe get some hunters back in the woods when it is still warm.
That said - I won't be hunting this special season.

With the Holiday Hunt implementation, they allowed us to bow hunt til the end of January. Some bucks around here have already been dropping antlers for several weeks, making it seem not worthwile to get out & buck bowhunt this late

Does it matter what we think? I think it does as long as your County Deer Advisory Council and your hunting population is functioning properly. Unfortunately, in too many places one or the other is not upholding their commitment. Most of the bucks are still holding here. With this cold weather on horizon, they will have some dynamite hunting where they have the extended archery season. We don’t have an extended season here because public hasn’t supported it and the public has done a decent job of harvesting antlerless in existing framework.
