I know it gets a lot colder up north than it does here. When y’all buy new vehicles, how long does the original battery last? Gas or diesel vehicles

Usually get 3/4 years out of a battery.

On average, a new truck battery lasts about five years.

Ok, that what I was thinking. Here’s the reason I asked. I have a 2019 pickup an it has two batteries, an I went out today to start it an it barely tried to turn over. Wouldn’t start. I’ve noticed change in the way it turned over for about a month now. I just figured batteries would last longer than that in a new pickup. What’s the best brand of battery these days?

I've had good luck with "Interstate" batteries

Yes, Interstate batteries are what I use. I've had them last seven to ten years in a place that has sub zero temperature spells at least once a winter. I am not using these batteries during the winter, and I do disconnect the negative cable for winter storage

About five years. Pays to shop around and read ConsumerReports. Lots of batteries are made by the same manufacturer and priced differently. I always get a better battery than the original.

Don’t know why this happens but if you have several vehicles, two or more will need a battery at the same time.

first clean your battery terminals. You can get your batteries tested for free and it will tell you how strong your battery is. Check you acid levels by removing caps.3 years on a batteries is a pretty short life span. Heat can kill a battery worse than cold. If you can go to Costco and buy their interstate battery. Cheap as you will get and good quality.

Ok, I noticed the liquid levels weren’t to the top. Some lower than others. I’ve heard to put an aspirin in each hole an fill up with distilled water. Is that correct?

No, I would not suggest that. Add distilled water to fill line.

Don’t push your luck. If the battery is old or tests out to be marginal, bite the bullet. It is January and you do not want to be stranded somewhere.

the batteries I buy have a 3 year warranty , 2 years and 40ish weeks seems to be the life span

what brand does make a difference , whatever the warranty is that is about when you can expect it to fail , if you do better than the warranty by more than 6 months your doing well.

go out and turn on your headlights for 15 minutes set a timer then start your car if it doesn't start your ready for a battery.

I always seem to buy batteries late December early January so I hit the coldest weeks of the year

I remember the Die Hard Lifetime Guarantee. I bought a new car in the 70s and took the OEM battery from the new car and put it in my old truck, then put a lifetime battery in the new car. Figured I could get a free replacement down the road. I think I did but don’t remember now.

Battery maintenance is needed over time the batteries in my skidder were bought in 2002. Still work like new and it sits for long periods of time in 15 to 30 below.

What do you call battery maintenance?

Keep your cables and connections clean and make sure your acid levels are proper. Batteries usually fail because of low fluid levels if the top of the plates get dry it's not good. They will flake off sulfate and it settle in the bottom and eventually shorts out the cell.

Do you fill them with distilled water or something else?
