I traded my other shotgun with a sling off toward a SWEET Browning Citori (no regrets at all) but now I only have my Mossberg 835 tactical turkey with an xxfull choke. If I were to buy just one choke tube for that, should it be a mod or full to shoot #4 buck out of. Willing to try couple different rounds of buck to see what patterns best, but dont wanna buy 2 chokes.

Modified would probably be best. It's really hard to say without patterning though.

I would think Full but as said above, you would need to pattern it. I have a bunch of Mossberg 835 chokes if you need some.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Modified would be my choice. Main thing, which ever choke you choose, shoot as many different brands of buckshot as you can find to see which patterns best. They really vary. Here in NJ we deer hunt with buckshot. My gun even though a 3 inch chamber shoots 12 pellet OO Buck 2 3/4 inch shells the best. I assume you want to shoot coyotes, don't be stuck on #4 buckshot, try some #1 or single O. Many guns will shoot these very tight in a pattern and these sizes have a little more penetration power at longer ranges. I have seen deer shot with #4 buckshot at 30+ yards that none of the pellets penatrated the chest cavity even between the ribs. This means they may not penatrate a coyote shoulder blade at that distance or further either.

I was going with 4 buck simply because I have about a few of about 3 different brands from using with my other gun. Honestly, ive never heard of 1 or 0 buck, just 00 and 4. Ill see whats available.

I don't have a 835 but I do like my Carlsons BSC buck shot choke in the 500 with the 20 inch barrel it is an extended ported full and patterns buck and shot well I use it all the time for pheasant and even trap loads

I may take a different approach to chokes than other people I tend to go full for most things , trap as an example I would rather smoke 22-23 and miss 2-3 that I know where my fault because it is better practice for me to run the full all the time and know the gun and choke come bird season. than break 24-25 but have a bunch of single pellet hits. because single pellet hits on a bird can kill. I have done it , but it is seldom a go pick up the bird where you shot it thing.
the one single pellet kill on pheasant I got lucky it flew over the corner of a plowed field and at 300 yards out dropped out of the sky a few feet into the field.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Don't know about your gun but my 535 will put 20-25 out of 41 number 4 buckshot in a 12 in. circle at 40 yards around 10 at 50 but they're probably running out of gas by then That has a 24 in. barrel and the original turkey choke thought i'd try it before splurging ona new choke later models like the 835 don't interchange with mine so they are different

Try your present tube. Might be good. I shoot an 1100 magnum 30" full. Patterns very well with 00 and 000. Never shot 4 buckshot. Are you shooting deer or coyotes with #4?
