I trapped for the fur market for many years . But After 15 years of live market trapping I found that my catch rate was better when I removed those animals alive from the catch site over that of the fur trapping years when the critter was killed on the site.
And It seemed that when I caught a domistice critter at a location that trap location went dead for awhile.

I did very little land trapping, but was exclusively a water trapper. But, I often wondered if catching a skunk in a coon or fox set would contaminate the set? Wouldn't the skunk odor overpower any attractant a trapper might use?

I did read once that skunk scent was an attractant for fisher.

If I can’t choke it out, I pop them in the lungs. Way less blood if you’re worried about it.
Got a pic of a possum in a foothold and 2 coyotes come by to check him out. Caught the coyote in the remake of the same trap and bed, lol.
Best DP catch was 6 straight days with 2 coons, a possum, another coon, another possum, and finally one more coon. All out of the same DP cabled around the same tree.

Thanks

I think for feral hogs, rabbits you don't want blood there
