On may30 I had the widowmaker, a helicopter ride to Cinn. Oh and a stint and I am good to go. Never knew it was coming no signs at all. but years of smoking and eating what I wanted caught up with me.Now Iam 30# lighter and still not smoking cant say I feel great but Im still alive.

It's important to exercise, watch your weight and cholesterol, and eat a healthy diet. But lots of times heart problems simply come from genetics or your body make up. My Dad had a quad bypass a little over a year ago and he's always been thin and healthy and an exercise fanatic. And some folks eat McDonald's every day and couldn't walk to the mailbox and back and live to be a hundred with no health problems. Life just ain't fair sometimes.

I am over weight myself. Had my physical today. Will get the results tomorrow.

Lifestyle changes are hard to make. I have had two successful cancer surgeries and two AFiB procedures. And I have not cleaned up my act. I am 76.

I hope your friend has more will power than I do. Nothing has slowed me down except a failed, infected, knee surgery.

When I was diagnosed with AFIB many years ago, I was run through several stress tests and they did not indicate any problem at all. But my cardiologist kept digging, Ultrasound front and back were negative but when he did the catherization, there was a 90% blockage of the widow maker. That extra effort on his part saved me a heart attack and likely an early demise. That was 15 years ago and I get checked out every year.

And a somewhat devils advocate comment on the white food (carbs). Most folks in Asia have a diet that revolves around rice but you do not see the obesity in Asia that you see in the US. I do not claim to have the answer but I do not believe it is just carbs but more likely a combination of dietary, exercise and heredity factors.

My AFIB occurred in the left chamber. Was put under and shocked back into rhythm. Then is showed in the right chamber. Had an ablation. No more problems. BP is good and heat beat is normally in the 60s. I take several meds however.

Worst thing for my heart is an angry wife!

I have been to Asia six times and trust me there are a lot of fat Asians. Plenty of diabetes and heart disease too. I have friends in their 50s that are on BP meds and becoming insulin resistant just like here.

They don't have food stamps either.

They do eat alot of rice with every meal, but almost never potatoes and bread. so its vegies and rice with a bit of fish or pork if they can afford it. Many eat just rice and vegies and cant afford to eat much else. Fruits make them fat too.

I just lost a buddy I grew up with, this past week, @57, died of a heart attack. My GGpa lived to just shy of 90 and drank like a fish, smoked and chewed side chew. Was at a softball game in the 70's to watch my old Mans buddy play. He was 34, didn't drink or smoke and was very athletic. He fell over dead while sitting on the bench. I think it's a persons own metabolism and God that decides.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Years of smoking, fried food and he is heavier than he should be. Weird thing is, doc said he has a super strong heart, just had a severe blockage.

Stay healthy guys.

Glad to hear your pal survived Hutchy. Good fishing pals are hard to come by.
Medicine tells us cardiovascular disease is about a 40 year process. Some folks start younger than others to see how much their body can withstand.
Hope he's able to wet a line with you in the future.

Hutchy big people need stronger hearts naturally no surprise there. However one can do a lot of things to plug up the plumbing that make the pump work.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, heart attacks were the leading cause of death worldwide but were steadily on the decline. However, the new study—recently published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Medical Virology—shows that heart attack death rates took a sharp turn and increased for all age groups during the pandemic

God Bless your buddys Hutchy and Jim,sorry for your losses.
I have had a surprizing number of friends and acquaintances, and colleagues in both work and trapping fraternity pass away in the last couple of years from various issues.
I guess that naturally becomes a more frequent occurence as we start to get up in age.

Ive posted pics of him here holding musky. A very active trapper as well.

I hope he does well in recovery
