Them dogs are made for working and that sure as heck don't include babysitting duty. SMDH I don't think they should all be shot, but they should not be loose around anything that you don't want killed. I like the shotgun analogy posted above, you don't mishandle a pit same as that shotgun or something bad about to happen. There are entirely to many idiots in this world mishandling the dogs and I don't see it changing without heavier consequences handed down to those that do mishandle them. Sure do hope that youngin makes it through this with minimal scars, and the dog owner meets up with karma.
No one can guarantee a dog is always under control. No one, unless it's dead of course.

no but 2 layers of fence with a hot wire on the second is a good place to start
the issue is trusting that it won't go off and having no way to slow it down or stop it if it does.
back to the shotgun analogy , if you made a gun case of 3A soft body armor to put your poorly kept loaded shotgun with the safety off in it would sure scare the poop out of you when it went off in the back of your truck but you wouldn't be injured
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
What the heck would anyone need or want a dog for that requires that level of security to keep it from mauling some little child?
I don't know . but people keep tigers , wolf mixes and poisonous snakes , why I don't understand.
if your going to keep something that powerful with a drive to hunt like that then it should be with caution.
I know people with pits , they can be nice dogs , I think they trust them a little too much , but most of them also don't have kids and will be the first ones to make sure they have a leash on if leaving the yard.
they put a lot of work into their dogs , spend a lot of time with them and have done professional training in several cases they also don't hunt them and the dogs are not aggressive at all that I have seen.
still when dealing with great power great responsibility is needed and that clearly was not being exercised in the case that started this thread.

All dogs have different drives and personalities, Pits can be good, I've seen several, Just isn't much demand for what they're good at, I would never completely trust one and any one keeping one with children, or around any other vulnerable person is playing with fire, no, make that a hand grenade.,,,
started in the corners , then I blocked the corners
so she learned to do it in the middle of the fence
she did it to follow the wife and kids on a bike ride , a little camera showed me how she did it
the addition of a hot wire at the top of the fence on the inside and she never tried it again after 2 weeks I turned off the fence charger , she died of old age 14 with the fence never being energized again

GCP I'm sure you'll agree the difference is the pit only has to escape once to kill some ones child.
Here's a story I've told before on these posts. There was a mom of a little boy in a small town near here. She gave him a popcycle on a warm day and had him go set on the back steps to eat it so it wouldn't drip in the house. When she went to get him a few minutes later two escaped pitbulls from the neighborhood had that boy torn into several pieces stretched over the whole back yard.
You never hear any pit owners say, "Yep I knew one day they'd snap and kill a baby." it's always "I can't believe it, they have always been sweet and gentle... until..."
That breed needs to be made extincted. How many more people need to be mauled or killed by these animals? I'd shoot every one of them if I could. But in this snowflake world we live in today that will no doubt never happen.
Tommyran, hog hunters use them. Keep them in kennels when not hunting. If someone keeps them on their private property as a pet its not my business. When one leaves that property it needs killing if its not running toward a wild hog the hounds got bayed up
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
If there were three of those dogs, I doubt they were full blooded pit or they would have ripped him to shreds; as they feed off one another when they get excited. The poor little 7 year old girl in LA the other day did not fair so well with only one. God rest her beautiful little soul.
