I let them watch and if there is intrest i hand them a trap and help them make a set

Most times they wont actually decide to start trapping But they will respect it and remember that day the rest of there lives

Part of fighting the antis is letting people see what we do

There i said it....

There may be something ugly that happens on the line. That may not make them pro trapping.

Private land trappers have to learn this the hard way. Especially, if there is something valuable to trap on public land. Definitely an east/ west divide I believe on this strategy. Since most of the public land is in the west.

To be a little more clear i did not say anything about checking just setting .

Bad things happen sure but its kind of up to the trapper who they bring along is it not? I work alot of public lands. The incidents that happend that started the banning process in New Mexico was not due to legal trappers following the rules
it was guys who literally did all the things we encourage not to do and they could care less about the rules or basic common sense

If you get to know someone and they ask to go and are genuinely interested
Thats a decision to allow them to accompany you or not that we all can make

Many people in the public are surprised to see we are bot the boogymen portrayed since they were kids
Some made there minds up years ago. Its the people intrested and open minded i allow to watch me set or give a small demonstration. Have had good results doing this personally

Bad things happen deer hunting as well. Its just more popular and supported
And i dont see deer hunters hiding much.

I dont know that i totally agree with east vs west divide

Its more like in my opinion rural vs urban divide

There i said it....

Especially when an average Nevada bobcat is bringing $250 even on a bad year.

Nope unless a landowner tags along for a BS session but that is a rare rare deal.

If they’re the landowner, customer, or gatekeeper, I’d much rather them just say they want to come than to wait until I leave and go poking around looking everything over. The last thing I need is someone stepping in a blended bodygrip or knocking down my snares. If they’re interested, they should say so.

I’m not secretive about my trapping. Never have been. As a matter of fact, it seems like the more knowledge I shared, the more work I got.

I personally wish more people doing beaver work in Louisiana would openly discuss their work. How and what they’re doing. I know there are others doing quite a bit of beaver work in this half of the state, but I don’t hear much, if anything from those people. I know there are other people doing it, because there’s no way beaver problems are just being ignored. Someone is trapping them. An example is Federal Trappers in Louisiana. They’re active, but I have no idea who they even are. I’d like it if they’d post on the forum and share some of their stories and methods. I’ve asked several other trappers I know, and they don’t know who the federal trappers are either. I’ve been to Texas’ state rendezvous a hand full of times. It’s well known who the government beaver trappers are. I consider two of them my friends, and I enjoy getting to visit with them, but I don’t know who else is doing beaver work here.

Being secretive and being discreet when appropriate are two different things. I personally believe that being secretive and not sharing ideas and methods with other trappers actually does more harm than good. My opinion.

A cooperative owner or neighbor is what I want. I find that it helps significantly to let them tag along to their hearts content.
In fact just today i showed a neighbor at one of my stops exactly why and where I would be setting my trap. Worth noting that I have never had a neighbor or owner use my little guided tours to try to do it themselves. If that happened I might rethink it. What it has done is kept my equipment watched over, saved me gas when a neighbor offers to look at a trap in the morning and text me, that kind of helpful stuff.

All great points/insights!
I've had some thievery occur after taking some young men for a trapping outing but overall most have no interest in doing what I/we do...way too much work.
Some of the high school kids that were just starting out, did in fact fur trap afterwards but not for long but it was a good experience for them.
AND I have a few land owners that thought, "I could do that." And they went and did it...once. Again, too much work and initial expense. They ended up calling me back.

Getting back to the original question. Yes, I have tried all 3 flavors. All are great. I like bold or strong flavored coffee. Bold not bitter, and the Kodiak flavor is my favorite. Have ordered twice and will order more. I still drink other "Off the shell brands", but Trapline is a great change up.
