I had a game camera on a couple traps this year and I think if I had one on every trap I’d probably quit trapping!! Crazy watching all those critters ignore my sets!

Yeah Tony that does suck, but I learn from them. Caught many a critter that ignored my set by going back and placing a set where he stood and catching him the next go around.
This camera was just placed to see what was there. No cut trees to indicate beaver but there was a crossover. I’ve already caught one otter and hopefully a second. Just had a pic come in of a beaver, lol. So there’s one there too, lol. Don’t know if he tried going down the same slide or if he hopped over to the other. If so, there’s a Belisle waiting there too.

Also picked up a Grey on a coyote anus and NightTrain set next to an old dead log. Read recently about using a coyote anus and figured what the heck, lol.

They doing work out there and burning stumps, high fence area so something is always going on.
Swamp I worked out a deal with a guy that wanted any otters I catch…I get euro mounts (deer) and told him I wanted one of the otters heads as well. He mentioned something about bow quivers? So I really don’t know. He told me their skin is thick and tough.
As I’ve stated before I’m NOT a water trapper. I just set up a camera if I find a crossover and see what’s using it. I had a pic of an otter and beaver. Guess they stay in pairs. What’s strange is there is no evidence of beavers that I’ve seen. No cut trees, no huts, nothing. Guess they could have a hut in the bank somewhere. Same goes with otters, have no idea where they live or sleep. Shame on me I know, but like I said if trail cams had showed nothing I’d have never set any sets out.

Otter fur and leather is one of the more durable ones available. I know it ranks highly as a choice for Scottish sporrans. That's the man purse/possible bag worn around the waist and hangs in front when wearing the kilt. I'll testify they are prone to alot of abuse in that position.

This guy does some very nice Euro mounts for me. Thinking about getting one of each predator done. Never paid attention to otters other than being cute critters swimming around. Those jokers got some serious canine teeth and claws.
Hoping I catch another one or two.

To add to the day, my son had a good check this morning as well. He ended up with a possum, Grey, bobcat, and a big ole pretty coyote. At least for a Southern coyote he looked good.

Oh yeah, I had cleaned all my traps and tried dipping in Formula One. Well apparently it froze during the hard freeze days we had and wouldn’t stick. Even tried two dips. After a dozen and realizing it wasn’t going to happen, I went to Walmart and bought some Zeps like what was mentioned on here. Dipped them all and let dry overnight then dipped again the next day and let them dry again overnight.
We set the next day and had first night catches. So needless to say I’ve found my cheap and fast trap prep.
